    That's Wild

    • One of the Minnesota Wild's top prospects, Liam Öhgren has suffered an injury that keep him out of action anywhere from a week to multiple months. The Wild are not sure of the severity of his injury, but they're working with the player and the team to determine what the next step is. [Russo]
    • Some teams already do this around the NHL and we are jealous. What if the goal scorers of the Wild each had their own goal song? [Hockey Wilderness]
    • The Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase will be happening once again later this month and the Wild gave out the details. [The Hockey News]

    Off the trail...

    • Overheard at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase: What the expectations are for the game's biggest prospects, what they think of fighting in hockey, the Arizona Coyotes, and more. [ESPN]
    • One burning question for each team before the precious 2023-24 NHL season begins. [The Athletic]
    • The Tampa Bay Lightning did a couple of minor transactions over the weekend. They terminated the contract of Josh Archibald and then signed Tyler Motte to a one-year deal to replace the depth forward. Riveting stuff! [NBC Sports]
    • The Vancouver Canucks have been without a captain since they traded Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders last season. The most recent reports are that they are going to name defenseman Quinn Hughes. [Yahoo Sports]

Oh great! This should be perfect timing to start late, need to get up to speed, numbers hurt by shorten’d season, making certain the only thing that’s clear is the negative perceptions. I.e. wait longer to see a breakout or some flash of standout ability while the seeds of doubt are cast about durability. Since injuries are always hidden, we’ll be forced to speculate on the details.

If it turns out to be an elite Swede bagel-slicing injury, I’ll probably reserve my comments.

Come on, Ohgren's dad is a trainer. He won't let Liam within blocks of bagels. I'd be more worried of a smoothy blender accident!

Reading more into the injury, it appears as if he's already been out 3 weeks. The SHL hasn't started its regular season yet, so, that is good news. The trouble I've got is he's injured, no details, not even upper or lower body.

Quinn Hughes is a very good player. However, reading between the lines, why isn't Elias Pettersson being considered for captain?

I'm sensing he may become available. Something just doesn't seem right with him in Vancouver.
