Wild Release Prospect Showcase Roster

I wrote about the Blues-Oilers drama on another thread. Apparently, the Blues offersheeted 2 Oilers, and the cap strapped Oilers have got to scramble to keep the players. Broberg was given a 2nd rounder offer and Holloway a 3rd round offer. Both were 1st round picks and might be hard for Edmonton to lose. The deals are also short term, 2 year lengths. 

What makes it interesting is the way that the Blues went after the Oilers. Not 1 but 2 players. They fully took advantage of the Oilers situation. To do this, 1st, the Blues had to trade picks with Pittsburgh to get their own 2nd rounder back before they could make the offer. What seemed like a head scratcher trade with the Penguins turned into a bonafide offer for Broberg as the other shoe dropped. 

One must also ask the question: Could Guerin have done such a thing? This was pretty complex in origin. Does Guerin have the creativity to do this? I think what we've seen so far is that most of the trade creativity that has happened has been by the suggestion of the other GM. My hope is that the guys who have been promoted to AGM status can think, chew gum, and walk at the same time. This deal required a lot of thought on Armstrong's side and while the Blues are rivals, Army needs to be applauded for this outside of the box thinking. Should the Blues be successful in this, they get 2 NHLers for next season for the price of a 2nd and 3rd 2025 draft pick. That is helping a team for the now....and future as both players are young.

Even if Guerin had the creativity on his staff to do this, it has seemed in the past that he's trying to avoid creating enemies among other GMs, so I'm not sure he would try to do it even if the idea came to his attention.

Edmonton seems to think they can place Evander Kane on LTIR, who it going to have surgery, to help the situation for the upcoming season.

So, Edmonton was without a GM for a bit, and Stan Bowman took over as GM. Do you think that he and Armstrong have a bit of dislike for one another? Some people carry grudges very long.

Huck is right, Guerin has tried to be friendly with all the GMs, and as a new guy, that's probably a smart strategy. Build your relationships, it will help down the road. He did this with using the Wild's cap space a couple of years ago to help out some other teams. 

However, in his long playing career, and his 5 year GM career, is there a GM he just sees as a POS? Is there a guy he'd really like to fleece just because he doesn't like the guy? We know that Guerin is ultra-competitive and had his battles on the ice. Would this carry over to him being a GM? I wonder how he feels about other Central division GMs? He sure helped Army out with Wild legend Ryan O'Reilly. Is there vitriol between him and Jim Nill?

Kane to LTIR? why not, it works for Las Vegas so look for him to be ready just before the playoffs

Very possible. I guess if there is a GM to go after, he's probably the one. Going back to the Wild, however, they also don't have the cap space to offer sheet guys like that, overpaying for the upcoming season.

Not the upcoming season, but at some point the abundance of prospects does make having draft picks less critical to where we could employ a similar strategy.

As far whether he would, I think in most cases, he is trying to avoid getting on other GM's bad sides.  It may only be a small example, but Guerin did take the opportunity to pick up Chisholm despite Winnipeg not exactly being very happy about it.  Granted, it was Winnipeg.  Given their BS on the ice sometimes, he probably figured they more than earned it.

I think Guerin might be a 90's GM (old boys club, former NHL'rs in suits, lot's of stitches at GM meetings) while the league is trending more moneyball/quant GM/loophole GM (Vegas LTIR manipulation, offer sheet games, etc.)

I'll say it again, winning answers all question marks.  Wild need to start making some noise in the playoffs sooner rather than later.  Like it or not Guerin gets another (final?) free pass this season.  Shit the bed in playoffs this year? Oh well cap penalties, Bob-Lob-Law.  Shit the bed next season, maybe Guerin's decisions are starting to compound.
