  • Kirill Kaprizov Named First Star of the Week

With the Minnesota Wild being red hot and winning a whole lot of games, some players are scoring points like they are absolutely nothing. One of those players is Kirill Kaprizov. And because of that, Kaprizov was named the NHL's First Star of the Week for his efforts last week.

Kaprizov led the entire league with six goals and 12 points through the four games the Wild played and earned a 3-1-0 record on. He tied franchise records of points in a single game and points in a single period, scored a hat trick. Kaprizov was just unstoppable and continues to be a significant offensive threat whenever he steps onto the ice.

While this season hasn't gone as well as others, Kaprizov is still lights out as he plays a pivotal role in the Wild's current fight for a playoff spot. Through 51 games, he has scored 26 goals and team-leading 63 points.

If the Wild are going to make this final push and be in the second Wild Card spot after 82 games, Kaprizov is going to need to have more performances like he did last week.

    That's Wild

    • Another player that had a big week was the best friend of Kaprizov, Mats Zuccarello. And now, because of his productive streak, the veteran winger is now back on a point-per-game rate, having earned 50 points in 49 games this season.[The Hockey News]

    • We touched on Brandon Duhaime's availability before the trade deadline and the possibility of him being moved, but one team that has reportedly been interested in the player is the Vancouver Canucks.

    • Snipers like Jake Guentzel are rarely available at the trade deadline and contenders should really pounce on this opportunity. [Daily Faceoff]

Personally, I think there'll be a market for Duhaime, perhaps even a bidding war. Bidding wars are not fleecings, but they sure do bring in resources like a fleecing!

So, over the past couple of days we've heard of TBL asking about Duhaime, and now Vancouver. I'd have to believe that a couple of other teams are interested, even if it were to block Duhaime from going somewhere.

Reading through the rumor mill, I saw a ranking of Blues trade options. Under the "any takers" subtitle was Marco Scandella. I haven't seen his game lately, but a large bodied defender like that could be rather useful in the playoffs.

I also saw Joel Edmundson as a target off of Washington. Both players are large bodies who've had some injury problems. Both players could be good playoff defenders.

What do you guys think, and has anyone watched their game recently?

Nashville is on a 5 game winning streak and is currently 4 points ahead of us. We have one game in hand. They play Ottawa tonight, and Ottawa's been winning.

I think we need this one tonight! I'll be blacked out since I'm in Canes Country.

A little confused why you would be blacked out when you are in the region that the opposing team plays in.  I'd think that would make it easier to watch, not harder.

If you use ESPN+ to watch, they stupidly black out the local market teams.

It always depends on the price, right? I always liked Marco and didn't like losing him. Not sure how good he is these days...

Just put Goligoski in for a period.  That will cure any desire to bring back 34 year old Marco S..  And one Marco is enough for a team.

I have not watched alot of tape on Scandella over last 5+ yrs, but he was never fleet of foot while here so he's now 5+ yrs older (slower).  Same people who want Scandella back in his mid 30's want Dumba back mid 30's.

I use a VPN, live in MN. and ESPN will block me if my location is Chicago and closer. Another terrible decision by Bettman and the boys.

He' being blocked because he's in Canes country ESPN assumes he's a Canes fan. If the Canes play the Wild in MN. he gets blocked.

Big week for the Wild if they plan to contend for playoffs.

Home against Carolina Tuesday. Carolina favored tonight.

at Nashville Thursday, so I'd assume Nashville favored in that one.

at St. Louis Saturday, so I'd assume Blue favored there.

Home against San Jose, back to back, on Sunday. Wild probably favored there.

They'll face Nashville and St. Louis again the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day, but it would really help their playoff hopes if they can grab those roadies this week, and not squander the home game against the Sharks.

Because I pick up my games on ESPN+, I do not have a Bally Sports account nor am I paying the Bally ransom.

when it was under "any takers," to me, that meant please take him off our hands and pay him his salary the rest of the year. A 7th or future considerations is a price in that category.

Let me put it a little differently, it is probably a little less than a price for Goligoski or Merrill. Likely that's due to his contract.

I was thinking from a size standpoint. He always had a big shot. I never thought his speed was bad, but, he has had some injuries so he may be slower. I wasn't thinking of resigning him either, just a pure rental. He's got to be faster than Goligoski and Merrill.

Or if the Wild are playing the Canes in Carolina I also get blocked. My son in Alpharetta used to get blocked as it was deemed Canes territory, but that changed this year.

With last night's loss, I'm thinking we have back 2 back must win games coming up this week. Nashville being most important. I just searched the Preds schedule. It looks like they have a tough stretch in the last part of March, first part of April.

I still maintain, though, that we need to beat them in the head 2 heads if we're getting there, and I think we have a better roster to do it. Who gets the net?

I suspect the Wild will go with Fleury in the game tomorrow night, but not certain.

With Josi, McDonagh, and Juuse Saros, I'd give the Predators the edge in defense and goaltending, and give the Wild the edge in forwards.

Really wish the Wild had the money to keep Nyquist(49 points in 60 games) rather than Johansson(27 in 59) when looking at these games. O'Reilly has been a major pain for the Wild in the past. Hopefully our guys bring their best game to Nashville!

Can we send them Freddie, NoJo, Merrill and Gologosky for Marco?? 😂
