  • SBN Mock Draft: 2nd Round

    Guest

With all of the focus on the first round, the SBN mock draft charges forward, into the second round. As you should all know by now, the Wild own two picks in the second round, their own at 39, and the Washington Capitals' pick at 56 acquired for Eric Belanger.

Who did we choose on behalf of the Wild? Make the jump and find out.

First, let's get caught up. The first round looked like this:

Thus far in the second round, it looks like this:

As you can see from above, we have selected Mark Alt, defenseman from Cretin Durham Hall High School here in Minnesota, and Max Gardiner, forward out of Minnetonka High School, also here in Minnesota.

Let's look at our first choice, Mark Alt.

Buddha: A two sport star in hockey and football, only recently did Alt fully commit to hockey. That has left some questions with his passion for the game and with his mental ability to read the game. That said, he has plenty of time to refocus at the University of Minnesota. 6' 4" 205lbs at 17 years old? That'll do just fine.

    And finally, Max Gardiner.

Buddha: The younger brother of defenseman Jake Gardiner, taken in the first round of last year's draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Max is a power forward, and a fairly good one at that. 17 games, 17 goals, 43 points. I think those are some decent numbers. According to SBN's Western College Hockey Blog, Gardiner is headed to the USHL for one year before going to the University of Minnesota. Gardiner is likely a long term project, but with Bomber in the new role of Player Development, there is nothing but faith that Gardiner would move along quickly.
