Will D. Ness Verified Member
I don't know if Marat actually needs a confidence boost or needs to get used to NHL sized ice or anything like that. He does need more time on the ice and in situations where he can play to his talents. Up here he was forced to play a really conservative game on the 4th line with guys not really skilled enough to put up a consistent offensive effort and would commonly lose the puck in bad spots. So I hope they put him on a line in Iowa that can open it up a little bit.
Lovehockey Verified Member
Just to add. He has the skills and speed, and his is not 4th line player. So either he was asked to play very conservative OR he chose to do so (next contract maybe). This is what he needs to change/show in Iowa. Enforceror Verified Member
Iowa plays Rockford Friday and Milwaukee Saturday. It'll be interesting to see where they put Khus in the lineup.
mnfaninnc Verified Member
Let's just be honest about this. MaRat is down in Iowa because the Wild needed secondary scoring and he wasn't providing it. They had to get Nyquist and because MaRat has performance bonuses on his deal, bonuses I have no idea what they consist of but have to believe they will be hard to meet, his cap number needed to be subtracted. While disappointing for him, there are a few things he needs to work on. Showing that blazing speed and not gearing down because his teammates cannot keep up. Develop a consistent shot. Win faceoffs (if he accomplishes this, he'll be back up soon). He's very good in small spaces and a button hook usually loses a defender, but, a drive to the net once in awhile would be useful to learn. The baby Wild have a lot of centers. Hopefully they keep MaRat in the lineup and at center. Why did the big club not send Shore down? Gaunce, Shore, Hinnestroza all make $775k. Interesting that Jiricek is up and he also has performance bonuses. Perhaps his have no chance at being made and they just get him for his regular salary? In contrast, Lambos was at $863k with no bonuses. Wouldn't he have been the better option?

I wondering if Jiricek may need occasional reinforcement that he is valued in the organization. His troubles in Columbus seemed to be that he felt he was not appreciated. Maybe being up with the big club even as an extra may be beneficial.

I think that there is a huge difference between who the CBJs can ice on defense and who the Wild can. Surely, Jiricek can see that. I think he was given a very good plan of things that needed work and I believe he's done that. Now we get to see how much he's improved (well, at this point, just the coaches). A good sign was sending Dermott on waivers again. Also, don't underestimate the fact that Jiricek got to play with fellow countryman Spacek on Iowa. Having a friend this far from home can really help mentally at that age.

I'm actually glad to see his point totals down. This tells me he was explicitly told to focus on honing his defensive skills. I can't imagine he wouldn't be putting up points in the A otherwise. If this means trenin is gone then I’d ask why’d you sign that stiff in first place Guerin? Also giving up on khuz so early seems a little frenetic by Guerin. Come on bro prove to us there’s a plan here Edited March 7 by Pewterschmidt
Protec Verified Member
Knudi was not gonna evolve into Marchand. Lauko was always hurt. For me the trade nets a durable big man from North America. That's a win. Ample time was given to the 4th liners.
Pewterschmidt Verified Member
Was Guerin's praise of Khuz including a heartfelt one on one saying how much it pained Guerin to send him to Iowa disingenuous? Guerin's a funny guy isn't he? Not funny like a clown.

He just may be what he is at the moment, a speedy non-scoring 4th liner who is too small for a 4th liner.
Protec Verified Member
I think Knudi has a future but the timing wasn't right for him in MN. He got a chance and has been likable. Flashes of talent, but needs to adapt to the NA game IMO. He is responsible but also lacks the kind of production needed to be a roster/contract spot on a good team. For a 2nd rounder, he has helped the Wild net a 27yo big man who scores more and can make hockey plays with good hands. I liked Knudi and I'll be pulling for him to make it even harder. You gotta have a thing though, and Knudi kinda has just skating and defending currently.
