Article: Wild's Ryan Hartman Suspended 10 Games For Egregious Play

Recommended Posts

Hartman's decision to pile drive hurts us even more. Not only are we without the services of the gritty forward, who now has a month to work on his tan and golf game, but his cap number (according to google) is still an active hit.

Apparently, off ice suspensions do not count against the cap, but on ice suspensions are deemed "disciplinary action" and do count. Likely, this is why we had to put Kaprizov on LTIR, just to get a sub for Hartman in the lineup. Also, Hartzy is scheduled to return March 9th, 2 days after the TDL.

I really thought we'd somehow be able to swing (cap wise) a deal for Tuch. Nyquist was even less expensive. To me, it looks like we have no cap room to do anything! With Kaprizov out on LTIR, I'd suggest we start bringing up the kids to possibly debut. I'd start with Bankier and then Haight. Milne should get a 2nd chance, and I hope he will not play tentatively. I'd also try and sneak in The Wall to get some tutelage from MAF. I'm not sure if he is healthy again, yet, but the mental side is key for a goalie, and The Wall could certainly use some help in that department.

Off topic-

Yurov has recently scored in b2b games and is up to 12-12-24. He leads all forwards in SOGs and is tied for the lead in goals on his team. Metallurg is in 4th place in their division.

Recently, I said that he was leading their team in SOGs, which is incorrect, I simply didn't think defenders would have more. 2 defenders actually have more. In fact, on Metallurg, a defender is their top point getter. I'm not exactly sure about their strategy, but to me it seems odd that the top 2 defenders on the team would also be leading the team in SOGs.

Yurov is now 3rd on the team in points for forwards.

Looking through the stats of the baby Wild, it appears that they have a huge minus problem. A good share of their forwards are worse than -10. Is it the goaltending? Is it the skater's play? Are they just a bad team? I suggest that McLean may be in trouble. This is 2 straight years that his team cannot really compete well with the A. They also aren't bursting at the seams to send guys to the NHL. If I'm Guerin, I might want to find a guy who's a bit more experienced and can shape this thing up. The baby Wild should not be a solid 6th in their division.

I think anyone expecting the Wild to do anything at the deadline is starting to figure out what I did weeks ago: this is not the season to fuck around.  No space, all the injuries eating the cap, Hartman being dumb...we just have to wait out Kap coming back and Zeev (maybe) showing up.

I am not sure, but I think Hartman will count against the 23 players on the roster also, meaning the team cannot call anyone up to replace him. KK97's LTIR would cover any cap call up from Iowa. If I am right, we will probably see a bunch of 11-7 rosters come game day. The two weeks off will help players heal up if they are not participating in 4Nations.

I think this is more due to history with Hartman, isn't this suspension 5? Along with other fines?

I heard 10 games and you're right his history I'm sure was taken into consideration. I sure don't think Hartzy needs to be traded because of it though. I still think he's a valuable piece and wouldn't trade him just to trade him.

That and he seemed rather proud of himself.  I'm sure the image of him smirking at the refs as the penalty was called came into play too.

Penalties don't change anything unless they act as deterrents to the action.  You add up past history, the egregious and willfully violent act, and his reaction to it all, and 10 games seems fitting.

I disagree on the valuable piece though.  If he can't stay in control and dial back his childish outbursts, then he's a liability.  I want the Hartman who will occasionally do stuff like reverse check Ehlers because he's lining Hartman up and Winnipeg was playing a physical game.  I saw that as mostly protecting himself, though there was a bit of FU in it.  I don't want the idiot who will throw sticks on the ice or drive players faces into the ice because he can control himself.  Gritty is fine.  Stupid is not.  If he can't stop being stupid, then he's going to cost us more points in the standings than he gains us unless he's having a good year - which he isn't.
