Article: Marc-Andre Fleury Could Be Traded Before Deadline

Recommended Posts

Fleury and Goligoski both look headed for retirement after the season. One would think that if this were their last season, they would want a legitimate shot at playoff glory. They get to choose their destination, and as a GM, Guerin should be planning on a 32nd pick in the round for any picks he could get. But, why limit yourself to picks when there are plenty of good prospects around too.

Likely, both players will get conditional picks, picks that go up a round if that team makes it to the final 4. At this point, I'd probably rather have the prospect. One other thing to consider: If we are retaining money, something we could do in both situations, the cost becomes higher for the other team. Retaining 1/2 of Fleury's salary would have to up the round of a pick possibly 2 rounds. Teams are still pretty tight up against the cap.

I'd have to say that these next 6 games will dictate what the Wild will do. It may even be more simple, the next 3 road games. It is conceivable that we come back home next week having lost all 3 in regulation. Should that happen, even though our schedule is pretty soft down the road, I'd have to conclude that we were just too far away, and start taking offers.

I wouldn't mind finishing out the season with The Wall backing up Goose2 and we have to get another goalie prospect into the system. Let's face it, Hunter Jones is a bust.

Fleury will definitely get some interest.  He's not a lights out option, but still crazy athletic and can do well in the right spot.  Salary would have to be kept, but a B-level prospect or a 2nd-4th rounder "might" be in play.  It is worth considering.  Fleury has stated he doesn't want to move again, but that was at the beginning of the season.  We'll see if that changed.

Goligoski?  If anyone wants him for any price, that's their own fault for giving anything back to the Wild.

Veteran depth defenders on teams planning a long run in the playoffs always get premium picks. I would say both Merrill and Goligoski....and Bogosian should fetch some value.

What Goligoski and company provide is insurance against injury. They are former top 4 defenders (not Merrill) who can get plugged in for short spurts rather than relying on depth in the A. While these guys might be a little slow, GMs always like experience.

For the guys, for 20 games and playoffs, it's not too much of a price to pay for getting a chance. Most competitors would rather have that. That's why I think both Fleury and Goligoski will waive their clauses, but they'll also get to decide where to go.

Fleury was talking about retirement vs heading to Chicago when he was traded.  I could see him heading back to Pittsburgh, as that would be a very fitting swan song for him after spending 14 years with that club.

That said, if he wants to go to Pittsburgh, I see Billy trading him (with 1/2 salary retained) to Pittsburgh for a bag of pucks.  That would be a move that would have to be 100% requested by Flower, but I see Billy moving mountains to make it happen.

As a fan, I'd be OK with that...Flower hasn't brought us to the 2nd round of the playoffs as promised, but he has made me (as a hockey fan) happy to watch him play and see how loved he is by the team.

Hate to say it, but Foligno would be an asset to move to a contender. Who wouldn’t want him on their 3rd line come playoff time?

Disagree.  Not because of his play, but his contract.

If he was not extended $4x4 then he would have significant value as a rental with his expiring contract.  A contending team looking for a guy like Foligno wouldn't want to jump in bed with him for the next 4 years, especially at $4M in exchange for your end of season push.

Absolutely there'd be a market value for Foligno.  He's built for playoff 3rd line banging.  Hartman also would have a market value.  I'd rather we keep Hartman but if the return is high pull that trigger.  Same with Fred Evason.  What are these three going to contribute to the Wild three years from now once the can't miss prospects are in the lineup and we're making Cup runs.  Foligno and Fred bring Zilch...TODAY!!!

Yes we're assuming Benito doesn't prematurely extend them prior to this season

Bally Sports North owner strikes bankruptcy deal that will see games streamed on Prime.

Uuuggghhh!!

Agreed it's not optimal, but if it means those of us that are out of market (I'm in TX) can see more games, that would be nice.

I watch through ESPN+. I'm guessing Prime wouldn't be that much more than the 10 bucks I pay ESPN a month. I have heard that Prime thursday night football is not the greatest experience though. The other thing is with ESPN I can watch ALL the teams if I want. I don't very much but the option is there. Around playoff time I use that feature quite a bit though.

Willy, does this mean they won't be streaming to ESPN+? That would be a major blow to me!

That's how I see it. Prime is a competitor with ESPN+

They could strike some sort of deal (That would be in the best interest of the NHL product as a whole), but Prime Thursday night football is exclusively on Prime.

Great news for me! I've had Prime for years and about three years ago ditched Directv streaming due to costs and discovered I don't miss it one bit. So the only way I see any hockey is the Bally sports app for $20 a month about all I'm willing to pay  or if a game shows up on network tv. The Bally sports app is terrible most of the time with constant buffering and poor picture quality. And of course they get no playoff games. I'd love it if the Wild games moved to Prime.

I'm not watching hockey in May and June anyhow I'm up at the lake place. If hockey really wants to grow their fan base they need to get more games on network tv.

The only reason I haven't cut the cord and still have cable is for the Wild on Bally Sports North.  That said, I've also ditched my Amazon Prime membership a couple years ago after I got a string of clearly counterfeit goods through Amazon.  Like a good Minnesotan, I switched almost exclusively to target with same day pickup and get less counterfeits and there's no longer much of a price difference for house hold goods between the two...but that's just my experience.

Quote

Under the terms of the restructuring agreement, Amazon will make a minority investment in Diamond and enter into a commercial arrangement to provide access to Diamond’s content via Prime Video.

Customers will be able to access their local team's content on Prime Video channels where Diamond has rights. Pricing and availability of the service will be announced at a later date. Regional sports content will also remain available on cable and satellite providers.

Source seems to suggest that those of us who continue to be corded won't be impacted, and 'pricing and availability' to be announced at a later date seems to suggest that there might be a premium on top of prime...but who knows.  Doesn't sound like the courts have fully approved this yet, so we'll have to wait on the details.

I was under the impression that Bally Sports did not have those rights to sell, and that in the new media agreement, ESPN+ was able to obtain all out of market streaming. The only thing not included is when you play the local team & stuff on ESPN proper and TNT.

Perhaps the streaming content with Prime is only for the in market streaming?

You're asking the wrong guy. I understand hardly anything about these streaming stations. About all I know is that there seems to be many hands in the feeding trough when it comes to these things. It just seems to me that Prime wouldn't be into sharing anything with anyone...

I was gonna break down a few of the goals against. Some tough looks for guys like Boldy and Middleton who made some really crappy decisions and looked foolish.

Can't really spot TB a couple and also fail to kill a single penalty. :classic_biggrin:

Fleury really should take one last crack at it. Just send him wherever he's wanted. Who cares what the Wild get. He's earned another chance to win.
