Willy the poor boy Verified Member
I was actually warming to Addison recently. He def has made improvements even just from the beginning of the season until now and he is still young. I don't think he ever will be a star but I thought he would be worth more than a 5'th rounder.
Dango Verified Member
Speaking of Spurgeon, can he be added to the roster when he come back without cap issues or do they need to clear 7 million from something else because i dont see how thats possible otherwise . Or maybe im looking at a inaccurate cap site
Imyourhuckleberry Verified Member
Bogosian has an $850K cap hit and cost a 7th rounder. I guess Addison and his $825k cap hit needed to go, so they only got a 5th. Certainly an upgrade in size. We'll see how he looks on the ice.
Outskated Verified Member
Cute little stats aren't everything. Addison played a highly sheltered role and was routinely dominated below the goal line. It was time for him to go. Next up is hopefully Merrill.
Citizen Strife Verified Member
Addison wasn't the right fit for the team, whether "not being Spurgeon" was the straw that broke the camel's back. Faber and Mermis showed better immediate play and willingness than Addison. His style to sit back and hopefully contribute offensively, while always seemingly messing up defensively was not going right. Maybe his offense first approach works somewhere else. It wasn't working here, and sometimes cutting bait happens. He may have improved, but only marginally. Faber and Mermis took his spot: shit happens.
Tony Abbott Administrator
Dakota Mermis turns 30 in January and also isn't very good. 4

Agreed. I don't know how he looks okay defensively in the metrics they use from the site mentioned. He might help the Wild score 1 more goal about every 5 games, but if they give up 3 additional goals in that same span, it means that he's costing the team standing points, as he was last year. When the goalies consistently perform worse when a certain player is on the ice, eventually it has to be more than just bad luck for that player. Some guys help their goalies out a lot more than others, and the on-ice save percentage for Addison has always been low with the Wild.

So Addison has half a decade to become just as bad as Mermis supposedly is now. Good. He can do that for San Jose.
Dean Verified Member
I like Bills moves today. We need a nasty defenseman I’ve always liked what I’ve seen of bogs playing for Tampa. At least he will make guys pay to go to the net . Good job bill .

While I wouldn't agree that Mermzy isn't very good, I would say that we're getting peak Mermzy right now. He's an NHL journeyman who's landed in a good situation with the NHL club and he's rising to the occasion...for now.
Protec Verified Member
^^^ I would have liked to see him not give Wahlstrom a Mermission-slip to take a field trip into space 1v1 against Fleury at the last moment in last night's game. Shoulda Scott Stevens'd him. My first thought is that once a couple guys jump ahead of Addison on the depth chart, it's best to trade him out. Guerin did him a favor. He wasn't a fit here after having a solid chance to get the grit injections and follow Spurgeon's lead. Didn't happen.
Protec Verified Member
You've got Hunt, Lambos, Mermis, and Faber who all jumped past or into the mix with Addison. He needed a change because he was kinda becoming irrelevant. The Wild got a kick at the can and some value from Addison while here. The fact he had a terrible mustache and pissed off Suter has to count for something. A 5th might not be much, but I don't see it as a big need anymore to sell high. Just set him free to San Jose. Guerin is making another move to cultivate a reputation as a very fair GM who doesn't tolerate GF's twitter comments or player's power struggles. Most of us wanna see the reputation begin to include more important wins sooner than later.

Just another head scratcher from BG. 2 1
Protec Verified Member
Middleton-mustache level is so high, it counteracts the beleaguered defense without #46.
Will D. Ness Verified Member
I think it was after Addison got rag dolled that one game that I gave him 10 games. I had no idea how spot on that was. Addison is a perfect fit in San Jose as they strive for the #1 pick. 2 2

Paul Bunyan is Real Verified Member
Guerin did not target Addison. The key to the Zucker trade was the 1st round pick that the Wild used to select Lambos. Geurin wanted a young prospect included as that's the going rate for a Zucker level player. Pittsburgh has one of the worst prospect pools in the league. It was so bad that Addison was their top prospect. So that's what Geurin asked for.

He gives up something like 60% of the scoring chances.
Dean Verified Member
I have to hand it to Billy. Getting a big nasty right handed defenseman , drafted 3rd overall, that’s won a cup and is paid near league minimum is impressive. Watching the islander game it’s so obvious we are undersized. I was thinking we needed a Luke Schenn Gudas, or a Tinordi on the backend because middle a Merrill have no toughness to their game. Plus little defense . We are lacking on the right so just a great add. . Watching bogs in the playoffs, he always seemed solid. I guess my only concern would be has he lost his foot speed . Haven’t paid attention to him this year. IMO he will be a great add an hopefully toughen up young d core . He’s a winner unlike San Jose Middleton and bad Detroit teams Merrill. Now if Billy could only trade Fred for a nasty , heavy power forward with some hands. I guess one step at a time. Haha
Protec Verified Member
Putting young guys who can wheel like Hunt or Lambos with a crusty, bearded, veteran, grit-factory sounds like a nice combination. Goligoski, Merrill, Middleton haven't played that role but Dumba's compete, physicality, and tenacity has been missed. Bogosian should be able to add that element back into the D-pairings. Faber is more in the Brodin mold, skating and position more than hits and heavy slappers. I think a Hunt/Bogosian pair could evenly get minutes with the other pairs until Spurgeon returns. I think Merrill is becoming irrelevant too this season and might just ride it out as the 7th guy or splits some time with Goligoski.
Been There Done That Verified Member
Here's how much the Lightning (a solid team) valued Bogosian. "Bogosian had played sparingly for the Lightning this season, appearing in only four games. Earlier this season he had cleared waivers." There you have it. No one even claimed him. He was their Merrill. Ugh. Looks like BG is bringing in yet another guy his age so he has golf/drinking buddies when the Wild miss the playoffs. They can all sit and talk about how gritty they are as they watch Dallas, Vegas and Colorado playing for a cup. BG you're killin' me! No D person has been more of a traffic cone than Middleton. I believe I said consistently. No question that Middleton hasn't been great without Spurgeon this season, but the save percentage with him on the ice last season was 93.3%, leading all Wild defensemen who played 20+ games for the team. He certainly isn't a top pairing defenseman on his own, but he seemed to know how to play next to one fairly well last year.
MacGyver Verified Member
When you have one of the worst pk's in the league and you bring in more guys who have a propensity for taking penalties? I guess I'm not calling that a smart move. Buy hey keep it gritty! Next BG will be trading for the Flyers mascot. Addison was a lot like Dumba. Offensive upside but defensive liability. I feel Addison did not have as much defensive liability as Dumba though. I think Addison will find his place in the NHL and will probably burn us at some point down that road with that shot of his. Btw Fiala has one more point than Kaprizov right now. 😎
