Phil Kessel to the Wild???

I like this rumor. I like it like Phil likes hot-dogs and soda. Sorry "pop", is what I meant. Moved out of MN awhile ago but had a lot of pops myself, back in the day...

Veteran contract, short-term, small AAV, sounds alright. Burn wide Phil and let'r rip with the whippy INT-stick giving the Wild a little more scoring depth, not to mention winning pedigree.

😁

So its fun to speculate and that's about it!

He betrayed MY MN trust when he vetoed the trade a few years back. If we weren't good enough for him to want to come in and try to help and make a difference then SEE YA PHILLY DOG! NOT INTERESTED!

No room in the stable to displace one of the young guns coming up.

Kessel rejecting the trade is one of the luckiest breaks of the Fenton Era. If the trade went through, the Wild would've lost Zucker, and without Zucker there's no Addison or Lambos.

Being a two-hour drive away from the Hormel factory gives this rumor some legs.

In all seriousness, I'd hate this from an on-ice standpoint. Sub-half-point per game production and played just four games in the playoffs for Vegas? How does that make the Wild better? How does that get them deep into the playoffs? Are we just not going to see Sammy Walker until he's 25?

Agreed Tony, I never ever wanted him to begin with back then and I'm very happy with everything we have, but if you don't want to come to the State of Hockey...screw 'em forever!

The reason I like the idea is that Kessel is a player who always has detractors. Yet, he's done pretty well career-wise. He's no longer expensive but still has a scoring touch. He'd be like a Pat Maroon type veteran who isn't expecting a top six role. Yeah the Wild have young guys but they're under team control and have plenty of runway left. Do the Wild have good capital to make a bigger trade at the deadline? Perhaps, yes and would that be reason to have veteran depth over unproven NHL playoff rookies???

Could be better than playoff rookies because we've seen Fiala, Boldy, and even Kaprizov struggle in the playoffs. Therefore, Walker, Beckman, and Rossi aren't guaranteed to kick ass in April. Just sayin, not so fast to write off Kessel the same as I'd say we can't rule out a young guy stepping up. The Wild need to get 1M AAV guys to perform like 2-3M AAv guys. I don't care where they come from.

I 100% agree that at the time the Wild dodged a bullet. Kessel wasn't the player needed then at his salary.
