All speculation on my part but many were praising GMBG’s big balls for cutting Talbot and buying out Parise and Suter. Now in hindsight maybe GMBG is just kind of a dbag to many of his players if they’re not his guys/friends. That’s not to say that those moves weren’t warranted but the situations around them seem kind of toxic. While buying out Parise/Suter was probably best in the long run, GMBG didn’t really warn them or do it in the best fashion. From my understanding he just did it over the phone out of the blue. While Suter is kind of a diva, that’s still not a great way to treat corner stone franchise players despite the differences. Talbot and his wife/agent shouldn’t have aired their grievances publicly. GMBG was again kind of a dick about it, saying “I don’t have to do shit.” I understand why Talbot would be pissed and it was ultimately GMBG’s mess to begin with bringing in his guy. Then you have to wonder if there was stuff going on behind the scenes with Fiala. GMBG again was kind of a dick to Fiala and went out of his way to talk shit about him as he was trying to trade him. Who talks poorly about one of your leading scorers especially while trading him? I mean GMBG got kind of lucky in his trades with TBot and Fiala but it doesn’t add up as player friendly situations.  I’m kind of getting the impression GMBG is a bit of a hot head with a fragile ego. He seems to expect respect but hasn’t always shown to give it himself. I hope I’m wrong and the players love him but this isn’t probably boding well in the eyes of Kap and holding our players come FA. 

Guerin is a hyper alpha male. That might be fine on the ice but does not fit well in other positions that require some people skills. Like maybe the GM of a NHL hockey club. This is why he surrounds himself with confidants from his past. Probably all people he knows he can dominate over without getting push back. 

So the investigation was about his verbally abusing an employee as I understand it. Watching the Fiala and Talbot situations play out one thing that stood out was Guerin did not like being questioned about his decisions. He would get visibly irritated and talk shit about players publicly. There's that people skills thing again.  He's always quick with the "if you don't like it here I'll be happy to move you on" comment. I believe that was his Talbot quote. No middle ground, no let's see if there's a way to work this out. No, just the I'll do you however I want and you will like it attitude. Yeah that works in most companies and sports franchises. 

Parise and Suter had to go largely because they were a cancer in the locker room so we heard. And maybe so, it seems probable. Or maybe Billy needed to get the other alpha males out of the room. I wonder if Billy can buy himself out? 

 

Lots of folks saying GMBG is this or GMBG is that but since all the info is not out and probably won't be it is all supposition and speculation. The league and owner are satisfied (as far as we know) so lets move on until more real info is available.

So the first of the two investigation was into GMBG for verbal abuse against Andrew Heydt who was also the complainant. Word on the Russo wire is that some of the players are very unhappy as since it became public it was Heydt that initiated the investigation, he has not been back. Heydt is a huge player support and regularly goes above and beyond for this team. A huge part of everything behind the scenes and a very well liked guy. 

According to the article in the Athletic, the league did not say there was no evidence of this being true but only said the decided it wasn't a offence that warranted termination.

Reading between the lines it seems like Bill lost his cool on Heydt, a well respected and highly involved part of the team who regularly goes above and beyond for the players. Heydt initiated an investigation to which Billy did not take kindly. Heydt has not really been around the team since, missing his first road trip with the team in two years. 

IMO Billy is a hot head and a terrible boss. He thinks he's king shit and it is always "my way or the highway". That's fine for a hockey player but it doesn't work worth shit for an organization. It is not just this round of drama but also the Talbot situation, the Fiala comments, the Addison trade. It sure seems like anyone who doesn't roll over and agree with him gets sent away, regardless of their standing in the organization. That is not a good look and I think BG really stepped in it when he decided to tell off Heydt. It has been noted by Russo that a few of the players are not happy with the situation.
