    That's Wild

    • It was all doom and gloom for the Minnesota Wild early on. They could barely keep the puck out of their net while never even scoring on the other one. At 5-on-5, the team was miserable to watch and the only points they earned in the early days of the season was because of a red-hot power play thanks to one of the most skilled hockey players on Earth being a part of it. But, since the turn of the month there has been something different about this team and the results have started to come. Could we say that they've turned their season around? [StarTribune]
    • What has been key to this turnaround for the Wild? Well, basically playing some familiar and boring hockey. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • When grief and hockey are connected forever. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • Kirill Kaprizov was the hero once again as he earned the Wild the full two points in an overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights. [Pioneer Press]

    Off the trail...

    • Free agency might be very boring next summer. Adrian Kempe re-signed with the Los Angeles Kings and cashed in hard for an eight-year deal. [NHL.com]
    • Jack Hughes suffered an off-ice injury that is going to keep him out for at least six weeks. So, how do the New Jersey Devils handle his absence once again? [ESPN]
    • Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch is still looking for a complete performance from his team as they visit the Buffalo Sabres. [CTV]

Sabres have said multiple times (including recently) that Tage is not available and that they are not open to offers.  While no one is truly unavailable, I believe they hold on to him with same death grip they have on Dahlin.  Neither of those players are getting traded unless they've made it clear they want out or they won't re-sign in a contract year.  The only other reason is if they decide to tear everything down the floor boards and rebuild...for umpteenth time - and I don't see them doing that again with the fan base as disgruntled as it is.  The only thing keeping them partly gruntled is players like Dahlin and Thompson giving them hope that maybe they'll finally turn a corner.

An offer would probably have to include Boldy, Yurov, Buium, and picks.  Thompson's a good player, but the cost would be too high to pry him away.

well Sabres are still the class of the east....oh wait they are not. so maybe Tage for one of our top prospects (and a first rd pick) and a better chance to bottom out without Tage for a chance to draft McGenna or whoever - is not a bad idea. and gets a GM another few years of job security. i am not saying there is a deal out there, but a smart GM should have a pulse on the league and be ready. do we have a smart GM? .....

Russo said both in the Athletic and Worst Seats that Buffalo doesn't want what the Wild are selling.  He also mentioned the obvious.

    1. Tage or Tuch would have to want to leave.

    2. They would have to want to be traded here (over 30 other places).

    3. They'd have to square away money and term (probably the least problematic).

    4. The Wild would have no choice but to dip into their untouchable tier, leaving them with the same problem they are in already.

Russo knows Guerin is trying to make trades, but both he and all other GMs seem averse to budging off their best guys right now.
