    That's Wild

The Minnesota Wild almost immediately put pen to paper with top prospect Zeev Buium after he lost in the NCAA national championship game Saturday. The 2024 12th-overall pick has signed his entry-level contract and is on his way to join the Wild for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

All signs are pointing to Buium making his NHL debut Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks.

Of course we don't know who he will be playing beside or how much of a role he will be playing in his first ever professional hockey game, but it is super exciting nevertheless.

    • Zeev Buium is more than ready for the NHL, but of course he isn't a perfect hockey player. It will be interesting to see how his game translates. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • No one is really talking about how Freddy Gaudreau is playing this season. He is having the bounce back campaign that the Wild desperately needed to stay afloat without their stars. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • Despite the Wild having a veteran-heavy blue line, that should not prevent Buium from having a significant role on this team. [Hockey Wilderness]

    Off the trail...

    • Keys to the offseason for a handful of NHL teams. [ESPN]
    • The Wild are battling heavily to still secure a playoff spot. And it's the same for the Blues and the Canadiens. They lead the pack but due to recent results, nothing is certain. [Sportsnet]

It's pretty simple math and physics. Especially a defender needs some bulk to defend, block shots, and move people out of the front of the net. This is how playoff hockey is won. You can have a smaller defender and be alright, but you can't have a bunch of them. Spurgy, Brodin, Chisholm and borderline Merrill are all underweight for the position. Granted that Buium will replace one of those guys, but, really, that's too many small guys on the back end, and Judd isn't really helping things by drafting his undersized, puck moving, defenders.

Your point mirrors many here, but if you're looking for a good reason as to why the Wild don't advance in the playoffs, this is one of those reasons. There's several of them out there, but this one is controllable.

I absolutely get what you’re saying but the kids 19 yrs old..

he will get there. I don’t doubt he will be between 190-205 pounds once he fills out.
