    That's Wild

    • The Minnesota Wild start their 2024-25 season on Thursday night as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets in what should be an emotional season opener. After the celebration of Johnny Gaudreau's life and honoring what a great hockey player and person he was, there will be a hockey game played. And it looks like the Wild will be icing a familiar lineup.

    • And speaking of that lineup, is that going to be a long-term play or is it just for the opener and we will go from there? Liam Ohgren should get involved and Marcus Johansson appears to be in a weird spot. [Hockey Wilderness]

    Off the trail...

    • *While it ultimately isn’t important, the Montreal Canadiens were pushed into a single-goal victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs by Cole Caufield scoring a power-play goal. His first game wearing No. 13 in honor of Johnny Hockey. [Sportsnet]
    • The Calgary Flames of all teams spoiled the Vancouver Canuck's home opener as they came back from a big deficit to win in overtime. [NHL.com]

Interesting 6-0 home losses for the Penguins and Oilers.

Winnipeg dominating Edmonton certainly more surprising than the Rangers winning in Pittsburgh, but that has be to an awful experience for the fans in the home opener either way.

Hopefully the Wild are prepared to give their home crowd a much better effort and a home win to start the season off right.

Also, why do some of these articles start buried behind articles that have been up for days? The home opener seems like an important article to highlight.

I’m not a superstitious person, but this morning I walked .97 of a mile on my treadmill in hopes to bring good luck (even though he doesn’t need it). Let’s go Wild!

The Wild had the talent edge even before all the shit that happened to the Jackets.

All that said, taking any team lightly regardless of reputation or perceived talent is a mistake.  Play mistake free hockey, and skate circles around them.

Interesting lineup by Russo considering Wally got sent to Iowa and Hunt was recalled. Per wild.com

Especially interesting since teams can only dress 18 skaters and 2 goalies.

Chisholm is sick so he didn't list him, but them he posted a lineup of 22 players (13 forwards, 6 defenseman, and 3 goalies).

I suspect he meant available players and not a lineup, but he posts it like a lineup so it's weird.  The post was from yesterday so maybe the decision hadn't been made yet to bring Hunt up and send Wallstedt down, but it still doesn't make sense as a lineup.

Most franchises just carry 2 goalies, but it seems like we might be carrying 3 for long stretches. In the rules, there is supposed to be an EBUG who is a 3rd goalie who is supposed to be available to either team should a team need one. It's been used, well, sparingly is probably too frequent of a word.

If we are carrying 3, would our 3rd goalie actually be our EBUG? Or would we be forced to use the one provided by the home team?

Thanks to Enforcer for keeping us up to date, I'm hoping Hunt gets the ice tonight instead of Merrill. I suspect this will be The Wall's fate for much of the season. Oh, someone's hurt, send The Wall down, and Vaj gets to play backup. Sounds like he'll be getting oil changes once a month with this plan.

I'm excited for the season. Also, out of market question, with the Twins leaving BSN, is there a chance it is folding? The usefulness of the station would probably be in broadcasting 162 Twins games and 160+ Wolves/Wild games. This kind of cuts into their programming by just under 50%.

If something goes badly, we'll be at your door later with pitchforks and torches!
