    That's Wild

Minnesota Wild 2024 first-round pick Zeev Buium led the United State blue line through the World Juniors and led them to a gold medal on Sunday. Maybe most importantly, he made the crisp assist to the game-winner for Teddy Stiga.

Buium played a team-high 27:58 TOI and while Cole Hutson shone in the United States' defense, the Wild prospect was no slouch. He finished the tournament with two goals and six points in seven games.

    • In Minnesota, the Wild are persevering through the current injuries. They racked up a giant shutout win over the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend. [StarTribune]
    • Could Marco Rossi become a mainstay on the Wild's top power play unit? [Hockey Wilderness]
    • The Wild recalled first-round pick defenseman Carson Lambos from Iowa but his NHL debut will have to wait just a little bit. [THN]

    Off the trail...

    • Can the Buffalo Sabres salvage this terrible season? What exactly needs to happen for them and around the league, for that to happen. [ESPN]
    • A post-World Juniors 2025 mock draft for the top 16 picks. So, of course, the Wild aren't involved but now we wonder who will be there in the later rounds for Minnesota. [TheScore]

In tracking Buium, it seemed like in the 1st few games, he really didn't do much offensively. It was in the elimination games that he chipped in more.

My hope is that he is filling out and strengthening.

Another interesting note was Kiviharju had 3 assists, Soini had none. However, Kiviharju also was a -3. For being a runner up team, a -3 has to be a bit disappointing. I only saw a blip of Finland in this tournament, maybe somebody who watched the whole thing can comment on the 4 players of interest.

It looks like Lambos was brought up to practice with the team and be the extra D-man. It's still a nice reward to pocket 2 game checks while eating nachos. I'm hoping they'll at least debut him so he can really see how much faster the N is than the A. I think it will help him.

My gut is starting to get antsy as I feel a trade is coming soon. Last time I felt this way we snatched Jiricek from Columbus. It feels like a futures for now type of trade.

Not sure the Wild have cap space(less than $400k currently, and projected to be less than $900k at the trade deadline) for a win now type of trade given that Spurgeon should be off LTIR by early February. Maybe there are some small contract win now moves, but it's hard to speculate on what those might be.

But is he big enough?? Asking for an Old Dutch Dip.

He's big enough, he's smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like him!

Some hockey analysts had him listed as a top 10 overall prospect among all skaters who had been drafted, but hadn't played a full season of NHL hockey.

He's basically the same size as Makar, and could still add some muscle.
