Amidst all the trade rumors for Minnesota Wild center Marco Rossi, his team is backing him up and saying that they would rather keep the restricted free agent. And now that we have entered free agency officially, the Wild will need to carve out a deal for the young forward.

Wild general manager Bill Guerin is confident a contract will get done and Rossi will remain on the Wild.

“I’m not concerned,” Guerin said Tuesday. “We’re prepared. We will match. It’s not an issue with us. I think when you’ve seen (offer sheets) in the past that have been successful, maybe the teams weren’t fully prepared for it. But yeah, we’re prepared for it.

“We’d rather make a deal with Marco.”

That feels like a completely different narrative than the one we have heard of Rossi being in endless trade rumors, but maybe things have changed. The likely happenings up to this point is that the Wild are not getting the right players back they want in a Rossi trade, and all the potential upgrades at the position, are gone. Now, they need to commit to the homegrown player because he is truly their best option, and kind of always was.

I don't disagree about the whole Switzerland thing. Rossi was to be an NHL player. I too thought the puck to the knee was an obvious  game changer. His play fell off the planet when that happened and did not really recover through the playoffs. My point is how many folks are putting the quitter label on him without any evidence that he actually quit.

I have no evidence whatsoever of that happening. But, should he not sign and hold out and play in Switzerland as some here are recommending him to do as lazy boy agents, those who did have that opinion, will be certain he did.

if Kap told Bill that Rossi is a guy you keep - Rossi would be signed to 7X7. Bill is running the show with Kap's input. Otherwise Vlady would not be here.

Connect the dots. Rossi is not in the plans and his performance during the end of the season and in the PO contributed to that and sealed his fate.

I think Kaprizov cares a lot more about his own contract than Rossi's, lol.

it's not about a contract but a direction of the team. kap wants to win and has an input on team's construct (as evidenced by Vlady signing - Kap wanted him and here he is) so if kap said that Rossi was vital to team's success - Rossi would already be signed. but that hasn't happened yet....
