  • Wild Not Trading Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Soon, As Training Camp Opens

While we were all hypothesizing that maybe the Minnesota Wild will be entertaining trade offers for star winger Kirill Kaprizov if a contract extension can't be done in the coming weeks, the recent reports are that there will be no trade.

According to Pierre Lebrun on TSN's Insider Trading segment on Tuesday, the Wild aren't engaged in any trade discussions with any teams around Kaprizov. All of their energy and focus is going into keeping the 28-year-old winger and signing him to a new contract as soon as possible.

It might have been obvious, with the Wild having playoff hopes and trading their best player would certainly be a way to kill those, but you never know how badly a team doesn't want a contract negotiation to tour sour or become a distraction for the rest of the team. They could have just went ahead and moved on with the prime reason being to avoid the headache.

    But, thankfully, that's no happening.

I miss the pre-internet and pre-social media days. We wouldn't be hearing any of these rumors or speculations that are just created for clicks. You would just open the paper one morning and see that Kaprizov re-signed and never know what went on before that.

The problem here is not social media. Its the lack of communication by the Wild organization, led by BG. The public is treated like a bunch of dumb lambs only seen as customers who are only there to pay the whole thing. Just look at their website! No information, no news, no nothing, just marketing. At a big footballclub in Europe there would be pressconferences, interviews, a media department providing real content on a daily basis. Just look at the arrogance of BG when he finally shows up. The media and the wider public here in Europe would never accept that behavior and push them out with force.

I agree about the Wild web site, if you want actual news or information it is not the place to go. I don't know if other NHL teams treat their websites and fans this way. Anybody know of places to get info that's not pay walled like the Athletic?

On top of that, Monday I looked to try to find out when training camp starts. AI said it hadn't been announced yet. There was no internet information on it at all. But, I could find out when the 2024 camp started.

You'd think that with the potential of 5 rookies starting, that training camp would be an exciting time for the fans. Apparently, according to the PR department, you would have thought wrong.

I believe Russo mentioned that training camp starts tomorrow (Thursday September 18th), and that there will be some press time with BG + some players.

I think there's plenty of BS going around.

I also think NA hockey isn't Euro futbol.

Is the Wild bad at communications, PR, and obvious propaganda related to the team. Yeah, 100%.

Is it easy to get sick of GMBG, OCL, or Russo? 100%.

If Kirill leaves the Wild, it will have been a great run in Minnesota, but also sad. It will probably never be known why for sure, but could confirm there is something bigger going on? The ownership/management or the State itself, whatever the reason, you'd like to think the Wild coulda done better with the time they had to prepare?

The owner already promised fans he would pay whatever price needed to keep Kaprizov, so money must not be the issue. The owner should step in and meet in person with Kaprizov and his agent to find out exactly what the hold up is and see if things can be salvaged. If the situation cannot be salvaged, then make a trade and get a new GM.

    Exactly on point.

My original point was, there should be no news anywhere until it's done. Negotiating through the media just makes things worse, it's ruining everyone's reputation. I now think of Kirill as just another greedy Russian, but that could be an incorrect assumption. Maybe he just wants a shorter term so he can cash in again later and the Wild want to lock him in now to prevent paying more later. Who knows? We shouldn't even know about this or having discussions.

If Kaprisov won't agree to contract or trade by start of the season put him on the 4th line with Trenin and Sturm. Why waste playing experience with someone who doesn't want to be on the team. It would be a disaster if he walks like Gaborik which seems like that's where it's gong.

Boldy, spurgeon, Krill and a tasty pick in exchange for McDavid.  Turn around and offer McDavid 1 1/2-2M/more on the same term they offered Krill and BOOM, Guerin suddenly looks like Ken Holland. Boldy and Kirill can go under perform and be terminally injured in Alberta, we won’t have to continue to watch Spurgeon’s size and age become a liability and Conor McDavid, who happens to be the same age as the Russian kid with three times more career point production, can live out his useful years in the State of Hockey and we can stop being a team who gets Dutch-doored in the first round every year.   You know I’m right, don’t fight it. Search your feelings, you know it’s true!!!!

If this were the case, why couldn't Google AI find it? A little more digging couldn't even find it. Maybe he said it on a radio show and AI doesn't listen to the radio?

One would think it would be a headline article on the Wild website with open to the public practices.

It is on the Wild website. AI makes so many mistakes, I think our jobs are safe for the foreseeable future.
