This start from the Minnesota Wild feels different. There is just something in the air that fills us with a little bit more confidence that this team is performing well and their record is very deserving.
Could it be, maybe, that the Wild are writing their name in the history books for how well they're starting this 2024-25 season? According to NHL Stats and then tweeted out by Michael Russo, the Wild have opened this season without trailing in goals through their first 300 minutes (five games) of regulation. That total is the fourth longest in league history and the record is still going.
That is some total. And now, the Wild just need to not give up a goal in the first 101 seconds of Tuesday's game against the Florida Panthers, to then move up a spot to third. And if they can last the first half of that game without trailing? They earn the second spot.
History can be made.
That's Wild
- One reason why the Wild haven't been trailing is certainly Filip Gustavsson. The netminder has put up some stellar numbers so far that places him among the NHL's best. Now, the Wild will need him to keep it up to really stay ahead in the standings. [Hockey Wilderness]

- Tyler Myers has had some career. Going from Calder Trophy-winning defenseman in Buffalo to a little bit of a mark of Jim Benning's terrible legacy in Vancouver, to now being a decently respectable depth defenseman on those Canucks. He just played his 1,000th game and people are saying he should be proud. [Sportsnet]
