    That's Wild

    • The Minnesota Wild don't care about being away from the State of Hockey. In Buffalo on Wednesday night, the got a 1-0 gutsy win as Filip Gustavsson earned the shutout. It marked the 10th win on the road for the Wild, and are now 10-1-3 as the visitors -- and incredibly impressive mark that could tell us some things about this team's mentality. [Pioneer Press]
    • We know that the Wild are considered a frontrunner to acquire Columbus Blue Jackets young defenseman David Jiricek, but what does that really mean? We went on a deep dive to really discover what Jiricek can bring to the Wild as a whole.[Hockey Wilderness]
    • The Athletic's Corey Pronman went over prospects he admits he was wrong about and one of them is leading the Wild's blue line right now. [The Athletic]

    Off the trail...

    • Oh, oh no. Washington Capitals goaltender just scored a goal on his own net in maybe the weirdest goal of the season so far. He just absolutely ripped it. [Sportsnet]
    • Grades for all 32 NHL teams as we past the quarter-season mark for 2024-25. [ESPN]
    • The best 2025 prospects in the CHL and in the U.S. National Development Program went head-to-head up in Canada for a couple days and it featured what could be one of the Wild's draft picks next summer. It was a pretty good couple of games. [NHL.com]

Goose was really hot last night, but there was a lot of help. Wild blocked or eliminated a lot of rebounds. This is part of their "pack it in" structure.

I thought Buffalo was the better team (typing Buffalo reminds me of the fanduel commercial with the guys head in the popcorn. I have to say it in my head: Buff A LOOOO)

There was one play in particular that stood out to me and it was the 4 on 1. It wasn't the finish, it was how Faber penguined his skates for the puck to bank off of them and head up the ice. His acceleration is really a beautiful thing to watch.

I don't think this was a tired team, but they played within themselves and gave up the perimeter shots, allowed limited rebounds, blocked a lot of shots and escaped with the win. To me, the way Buffalo played was exactly the frustrating thing that seemed to be the Wild during the Fletcher era. Buffalo's a good team, but their record does not show it. What will it take for them to get over the hump?

ODC has suggested often that we go after Tuch. I believe Tuch belongs here and his contract isn't overwhelming. If Buffalo needs a shakeup, I'd suggest we stay close and hope they'd be willing to part with Tuch. Tage Thompson is a complete beast!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Another thing that was on my mind was Spurgy. Has anyone else noticed that he is regularly bobbling pucks around the boards, a thing he didn't usually do. Obviously, from the surgeries, it wasn't his hands that were fixed. This is both surprising to me, and a red flag. These bobbles are enough to allow players to close on him and he must take unnecessary hits which add up during the season.

He didn't have many, if any, last night, but against Winnipeg there were a few. My hope is that he can get this cleaned up quickly. He's 34, I'm hoping his hand/eye is not dropping off.

We're currently 4 points back from the Jets and they have 1 more game played. They play Vegas and Dallas next, we've got Chicago and Nashville.

Here's our chance to catch them, let's go boys.

Sabres have a very interesting team - solid D core (Powers and Dahlin are amazing) and looks like they have a good goalie too.

If Red Wings and Sens can put together a few wins, they can push Sabres all the way to 7th in their group and that may push them to deal. Similarly if Sens keep the 7th seed, maybe they'll deal. Bill keep an eye on Atlantic!!

    Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
