    That's Wild

    • Well, it didn't go as well as we all hoped but the Minnesota Wild still did walk away from a visit to Madison Square Garden with one point and some more security as they fend off their descent. It was a back-and-forth matchup against the New York Rangers that eventually led to the home team earning the full two points in overtime with a 5-4 win. But that is really all that we can hope for as the Wild are still without both Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek -- their two foundation forwards -- and trying to prevent slipping out of the playoffs. For more on Wednesday night's game: [NHL.com]

The Wild now have 89 points, which puts them seven up on the just-outside Calgary Flames but that Albertan team has two games in hand, which obviously complicates things. With just six games left in the season for Minnesota and eight for the Flames, it would take some sort of complete collapse for one team and the miracle run for the other for the Wild Card playoff teams to change. We can maybe breathe easy. The Wild potentially survived without their star.

    • The Iowa Wild have signed forward Gunnarwolfe Fontaine to an amateur try-out and we cannot stop saying his name. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • David Jiricek has not been off to a good start in his time as a Wild player, but it was still the right move to trade for the former top pick. [Hockey Wilderness]

    Off the trail...

    • We focused on the West, but how about that Eastern Conference Wild Card race? It seemed like no team really wanted to take part but suddenly, it's coming down to the wire. [ESPN]
    • Congrats Toronto, you have clinched a playoff spot. Enjoy the next four to seven games. [TheScore]
    • My God, he's just three away. [NHL.com]

I'm more in the column of get everyone healthy and roll the dice. With Buium now going to the Frozen 4, and him probably getting in 2 regular season games, I'm rethinking my commitment to playing him in the playoffs. What wouldn't burn an ELC year? Does he have 9 potential games?

Yurov's team is up 2-0 today and looks like they may live to see another day. Contract Termination watch is pending. I suspect that we are looking at a maximum of 4 regular season games if they can get him signed immediately. Is that worth burning a year?

I'm still thinking that 90 is the magic number for the Wild to get into the playoffs. This is especially true after Vancouver's goose egg last night. It may very well be that some other teams are running out of gas too. Perhaps we can head over to the corner and start filling the team up with some gas?

I think players like Rossi could use that game or two off if they get one. Despite scoring, he gave up some rough plays and is on fumes right now.

Rossi is developing the habit of coming through in the clutch. More trend than mirage for me...

Rossi doesn't play Defensive he cost the team 2 against last night. He doesn't have the mean streak like a Theo Flurey, Martin St Louis, or a Marchand. He definitely plays to his size and he isn't all that fast. He's growing his game but damn he hasn't done much lately.

Ya, he's got things to work on. He'll never be those types of guys but he has more grit than Boldy. Did you see the guy throwing haymakers to Boldy's head/helmet last night? Boldy retaliated by  by putting his gloves on the guys helmet and pushing. I think Rossi would have thrown down with the guy.

Unfortunately, that being said I don't think Rossi will be here next year from what I've been hearing. Where there's smoke there's usually fire. BG better get some immediate value for him and an unprotected 1'st rounder. If he's traded my biggest worry would be not getting value back. I still don't trust in BG.

Boldy is getting better in the FU department. He as really picked up his efforts lately in my eye anyways. He's almost ready to climb up to another level. Hope he plays with Kaprizov when Kap returns.
