Just days after the Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin went on record to saying that he had a little "f--k you" in his game, prospect Riley Heidt was able to put on a little bit of a show during this past weekend's prospect showcase.
His major contribution came during the weekend's first game against the Chicago Blackhawks, as he slotted in the puck past the diving opposing netminder and scored the first goal of the whole thing.
And he will need to do a lot more of that during the NHL training camp coming up, as he will certainly be given every opportunity to make this Wild team. Unfortunately, it could get little bit complicated no matter how well he performs for the next several days.
If the Wild plan on doing the three-headed goaltender with Jesper Wallstedt joining the team full-time, the will have roughly $500,000 in cap space. That will not be enough for Heidt to fit, but, fortunately, there are some players like Liam Ohgren who do not need to pass through waivers to go down to the AHL. So, if Heidt really outplays everyone in his age group, then there is a path, it is just a little hazy.
Otherwise, he will be back down in junior hockey again after scoring 117 points in the WHL and working on doing something else except dominating.
