While we haven't heard their name in quite some time linked to the incessant Marco Rossi trade rumors, the Buffalo Sabres have re-appeared at the time where a deal could be made with the Minnesota Wild.

The 2025 NHL Draft is this Friday, which means that free agency opens up next Tuesday and we are entering the most chaotic and fun couple of weeks in hockey where hockey is not being played. Rumors are going to be swirling and specifically around the Wild trading center Marco Rossi to a team that wants him as a top-six center more than the Wild.

We have heard the Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Calgary Flames as interested teams, but the Sabres have once again popped up as potential suitors. Buffalo was briefly mentioned as a possible landing spot months ago but it has been quiet until The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta put out a report about the Sabres being "aggressive" in the trade market.

On the Sabres, we do know that both winger JJ Peterka and defenseman Bowen Byram are getting shopped around and we could see a trade happen of either of those two any moment now, but there is a match there for the Wild, though. If the Wild want to commit to a blue line that could grow into one of the best in the league, they could target the hypermobile Byram to add to the young core of Brock Faber, Zeev Buium, and David Jiricek that Minnesota is already building. Or, more realistically and more addressing a need, the Wild could target Peterka as the majority of the return for Rossi and get a tenacious winger that is bound to consistently score 30 goals.

There are options for the Wild but it all depends on if Rossi and the acquiring team can figure out the framework of a new deal for the restricted free agent center beforehand.

The Wild are bound to be involved in the action for the next couple of weeks.

If we trade Rossi for another young D-man I'm done trying to understand bill's long-term plan and will determine that there is no plan

Billy and lots of people have said Rossi is the best trade chip as part of a package to get a better center.  If he is instead traded for a winger or d-man, how does this help the center position?

Billy is already strongly linked to Boeser, please don’t trade Rossi unless it is for another center.  Yurov might be great or might have a learning curve, either way, it is too much to expect 60 points from him out of the gate.

I thought Byram was a smaller D, turns out he's 6'1" 205. Did they just make this up knowing I'd look?

If this is the direction we are going in, then where do we go with Brodin? Seems that he'd be the odd man out.

Then, where do we go with forwards?

If we resign Byram, it will likely be for higher than Brodin makes, and Brodin is a very valuable defender. I thought you were supposed to trade from your strengths, not keep accumulating the same strengths? Am I missing something here?

I do think there is a deal to be had here, I'm just not sure that Peterka is so much better than Rossi if we switched Rossi to wing. Now, if a deal is going to include Tuch, you've got my ear.

Rossi is a (pretty good) center, nothing else.

I saw a blurb this weekend, from maybe Frank Seravalli, that VAN was offering up the 15th pick in the draft and SillyG was shopping that around for a player they actually wanted.

Because we already know Hartman is, "fine or good in a certain situation), and Yurov is"We don't fucking know," Rossi being pretty good solves a lot.

    Worth asking!
