  • More Teams Reportedly Interested in Marco Rossi

    That's Wild

    • It's not new that the Minnesota Wild might trade 23-year-old center Marco Rossi this summer. The team clearly does not value him as a top-six center, so before locking him up to any contract as a restricted free agent, they're going to trade him for some sort of player that aligns more with their philosophy for roster construction. But what is new is some specific teams being reportedly interested. Among them are the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks , and Seattle Kraken. [RG.org]
    • To win back-to-back Walter Cups, the Minnesota Frost cleaned up defensively and played more structured hockey. [Hockey Wilderness]
    • Some list by some website put out a top 10 list of cities in the United States for hockey, and Minnesota was represented in zero of them. [BMTS]

    Off the trail...

    • Oh, look. The Florida Panthers are once again making the trip to the Stanley Cup Final. Surprise, surprise. They will now face one of the Edmonton Oilers or the Dallas Stars. We're probably in a repeat of last year's Oilers-Panthers Cup Final. Hooray. Whatever. [NHL.com]
    • First big free agency board ahead of July 1. Where does Mitch Marner land? Can teams find a bargain in Nikolaj Ehlers? Which team will overpay Sam Bennett? [ESPN]
    • The latest on the three remaining coaching vacancies. [Sportsnet]

I think he'd look good in a Blackhawks sweater. But knowing Billy he will deal him to his good friends the Pittsburgh Penguins for 3 used pucks and the office chair Billy used to have there because Billy really liked that chair.

I hope Billy is dumb enough to trade him to a Central team so we can watch Rossi torch the Wild on the reg.

From what I've been gathering, a few of these teams' pundits (and or lickbait weirdos) have guesses on what could be on offer.

Penguins: Rakell, Rust, or picks package

Flyers: Tippett or Cates, and/or picks+one of those players

Sabres: Peterka (the most likely outcome)

Blackhawks: later 1st plus prospects (no way they dump early picks to the Wild)

    Kraken: players/picks

That's to say nothing of random Vancouver and Montreal stuff poking around online too.

A lot are really only rumors.  The only one that has any merit is probably Buffalo and Peterka at this point.  Russo has stated there's zero fire to any Thompson or Larkin barring the Wild being goofy and selling the farm...so, take that for what it is worth.

Out of those, Peterka is the only one that really interests me.  If we are trading Rossi, I'd want a young-ish player that has had some success in the NHL and still hasn't hit his ceiling - essentially a player that is much like Rossi is now.  Of course, I'd want a deal already in place to sign Peterka as part of that.  If he is willing, I could see that working.

Yes, he's a winger and shoots left, but he's easily an upgrade over someone like Johansson and is a lot better (and has upside) compared to most of what we would find in free agency.  There will be a bidding war for anyone comparable to him stats-wise or better on July 1.

I'm less interested in picks or aging vets unless they are players with a lot of recent history of having 30+ goals a season and they seem like they still have a lot of gas in the tank.  If they are on the decline, no thanks, we've traded for enough of those over the years while giving away young talent.

Losing a center would hurt though.  I know the team has indicated that they are going to give Yurov opportunities at center, which is fine, but I'd much rather have more true centers on the roster than wingers that can play center.  I feel like we mostly have a bunch of wingers that can play center.  If a team is going to have excess at any position, an excess of centers is better than anything else.

Are any of those guys over 30? If not, forget it.

Philly says no (Forester OR a late 1st), and the money Rossi's camp wants seems to be Boldy money.

Jesus Bill, you can get more than that...

Ya you need to keep him if that's all you're asking or being offered. If he dumps him for a late first he needs to be fired.

Where did you get this scoop?

I'm fairly well versed in the CBA and aint no rule in the CBA that says a dog can't play hockey.

Rossi will be motivated when he plays us regardless of where he winds up I'm sure. Fiala makes Billy take another bite of the shit sandwich every time he plays us too.

Why would Buffalo trade for Rossi? They have Thompson, Norris, McLeod and Kulick at center. It makes no sense for them to trade for a center. We don’t need Byram.
