    That's Wild

Well, things have gotten worse. Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov appears to be out for a little bit longer as the team goes through a bumpy road without him. The winger is reportedly heading to the Injured Reserve list, according to The Athletic's Michael Russo.

As Russo mentions, Kaprizov's placement on IR will be retroactive to before the holidays and with him just needing to be on the list for a minimum of seven days, he has hit that quota. Kaprizov will be able to be activated whenever he is healthy, but according to Russo, he is not coming on the Wild's road trip as they visit the Capitals and Hurricanes this week.

Not the worst news, of course. In the three games without Kaprizov, the Wild are still 2-1-0 but are not playing their best hockey -- especially with captain Jared Spurgeon also out with injury. Not great!

Hopefully that’s just a short time thing and he’s back next week. It was great to see Rossi step up, even though it was against the lousy Predators. Hopefully Boldy and Hartman find their scoring touch.

Kaprizov hasn't skated since before the holiday break. He keeps himself in great shape, so probably won't take him long to get back up to speed, but it would be concerning if this injury lingered for a while. Hopefully another week off will help him get right.

Sucks to see Spurgeon go out the way he did, but hopefully it's something he can recover from around the time the playoffs begin, if not sooner.

Remember when Kaprizov got injured at the end of the 22-23 season and Boldy went on an absolute heater potting like 10 goals and 5 apples through 9 games  in March while Kaprizov was out?

Yeah...would be nice to see that Boldy out there instead of whatever we've been forced to suffer through during December?

He has looked awful. And he's a player I've been high on since the first game I watched him play in a wild uniform. He is playing like he has zero confidence right now.

Small sample size, but I liked what I saw in OT last night.  Skated his ass off, out worked/muscled mangiapane to get the shot off and stuck iron.  But then came back and converted on his shoot-out for the game winner.

If we can get that consistently out of Bolds, and RossVegas keeps playing like he has been, these games are going to be interesting to watch.

It was nice to see Hartman get the monkey off his back. Hopefully a hot streak is coming. It was also nice to see Trenin's goal, pure muscle and a little patience.

One of the benefits of Kaprizov being out is that the team is having to learn how to win without deferring to him. Players have a tendency to watch the superstar and not necessarily do what they need to do. This time out, they have to rely on themselves and the system. When Kaprizov returns, hopefully, they will take these lessons further and start winning convincingly instead of barely getting by.

Rossi keeps going to the dirty areas even though he gets knocked down a lot. This is encouraging, and his goal last night was a testament to how good his hand eye and reflexes are. He's getting better, he'll be more costly, but I think this was a fairer way for Guerin to judge him. He says he hasn't talked to his agent about an extension, and, really, Rossi doesn't have much leverage since he doesn't have arbitration rights. I do think that Rossi has proven himself and the negotiations should start. How good can he get?

Let's not overlook Fleury either from last night. He did a good job of holding us in the game and was fantastic in the shootout. I feel like we stole 2 points even though the game was more even than you would think.

Tomorrow night in Carolina, quick scouting report, Carolina is really good and puts up a lot of shots, but maybe not the highest quality. They are also structured, but, they have goaltending issues. If we draw Kochetkov, he is money with low shots, let's a lot in high. Carolina as a team are better than their points...except at goalie. I'll be blocked out, but I'd expect a very low event type of game.

I was thinking the same. Hoping overcoming this challenge gives confidence to the not KK players and he comes back to a team better equipped to fill-in around him.

In one of the Rossi interviews, he specifically states he likes and wants to stay in Minnesota. We never know a player (or agents) mind but I feel we'll end up with a fairly team friendly deal. Rossi seems very team oriented and humble.
