    That's Wild

On Monday's episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman spent some time discussing Kirill Kaprizov. Not his future with the Minnesota Wild specifically and if the team is looking to re-sign him, because of course they are; but it was about specific dollar amounts for his next deal that will start in the 2026-27 season. Friedman was adamant that he wouldn't be shocked if Kaprizov was going to get a cap hit on his new contract in the range of Auston Matthews's $13.25-million AAV, or Leon Draisaitl's $14-million AAV.

And, that sort of makes sense. Kaprizov is the Wild's most important player, so if he were to stay it would be in that range, especially with the cap projected to increase by a whole lot in the coming years. Especially considering that if the Russian winger hit the open market, we could bank on him getting at least that per year. [Sportsnet]

I hope he thinks about the team more than the money. Yes, he’s worth it to us but if he makes a lot of money and we can’t add talent around him, we will just be a perennial bubble team.

The wild made a huge bet on him early on paying him at a $9 million level with a short sample size. While things looked good, he could have easily fetched in the neighborhood of 6 million at the time, and that would’ve been reasonable. We are now just getting out of Cap Hell and it would really suck to throw all of the eggs in one basket. If he really wants to bring a cup to Minnesota, he would at least take into account the supporting cast that will be necessary to make that happen , or at least get past the first series in the playoffs

97 is one of only a few in the league that cannot be replaced with volume.  I'd rather have one 97 than replace him with six other top 6rs.  We need a superstar to win us big games so pay the man what he want's and figure out the rest of the lineup after that.

You didn't hear it from me but Boldy looks like he's on his way (maybe already there) to becoming a game breaker.  He's got the deadliest poke check in the league.  And he's got plenty of Finnish.  I see you young man!!

We'll have some ELC and bridge deals coming up. I'm told the cap is going up again, but where does that end? I believe we'll be getting great value out of Buium, Yurov and The Wall. I have no problem paying Kaprizov while this happens. What happens after that? Maybe we get a mercenary during those years on a short term deal? This team could be stacked in a couple of years and momentum seems to be going in that direction.

    On the Farm:

    1. Heidt has 21 pts. in 13 games
    2. Yurov 10 in 18
    3. Where did Jimmy Clark come from? 10 in 8
    4. Buium 10 in 8
    5. Kumpulainen has gone into hybernation, 9 in 17
    6. Mikey Milne 8 in 10
    7. Haight 6 in 10
    8. Stramel 5 in 6
    9. Don't look now but The Wall is down to 3.70, .881

Looks like The Wall has rebounded from his rough start. It also looks like they are playing him pretty heavily.

and this assumes the six other top 6rs are of the Nino Niedereiter + Tomas Tatar types, not three Kucherov's + three Mark Stone's.  For this argument we're talking middle of the road top six players, which is most realistic for this hypothetical.
