That's Wild
Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin spoke with NHL.com in a quick little Q&A and Kirill Kaprizov's new contract came up. While he can sign the player as soon as July 1, 2025 to a contract extension, talks could be had beforehand -- but, Guerin is not going to be doing that anytime soon.
QuoteYou can talk to Kaprizov about a new contract as soon as July 1. I know that's pretty far off, but do you approach any of your business this season with an eye on what his salary could possibly be?
"No. We're a long way away from that. We're just focusing on the season. We just want to play. Kirill just wants to play hockey. We just want to play hockey. We'll figure all that out later."

Off the trail...
- Flyers defenseman Cam York appears to be almost ready to return to action — could possibly be back in the lineup on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators — so now decision time is looming for what the Flyers should do with Emil Andrae. The young defenseman has looked more than the part and has possibly been the team’s best blueliner in York’s absence, but the numbers and waiver exemption might play a part. [PHLY]
- Award hype season is already starting and one Flyer in particular is towards the top of the Calder race (oh boy, I wonder who). ESPN put out their recent “NHL Awards Watch” going trophy-by-trophy to see who should be told they did great this year. [ESPN]
- It’s also Hockey Hall of Fame Week and the 2024 class is one for the history books, but what about 2025? There are some big names who could make it. [Daily Faceoff]
