Declan Chisholm has already played more games for the Minnesota Wild than he has for any other team during a season. With just two two-game stints with the Winnipeg Jets under his belt, he has now laced up his skates for three games for Minnesota, and first impressions are so fair pretty good.
A waiver claim isn't expected to be as good as someone drafted and developed by the team themselves, so the bar is already fairly low and just being a capable player is a fairly good result. Chisholm has shown that so far.
In three games for the Wild, Chisholm managed to score his first career goal and add an assist for two total points while averaging 15 minutes of ice time. That's not too shabby! While he isn't blowing any minds or doing anything crazy out there, he certainly is showing that he could be at the very least a contributor on this team for the time being.
Plus, it does feel good that he isn't some 29-year-old AHL tweener having a good week of hockey, he was thought of fairly highly with the Jets and they were handcuffed to putting him on waivers. He just turned 24 years old last month so there is plenty of runway for him to improve or also no strings attached if he falls out of favor later on.
For now, everything is gravy and good gravy at that.
