While hockey is currently not happening and we are still a month away until NHL training camps even start, we do get a taste of what we are all salivating for in several months' time.
The preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics has officially started and on Tuesday, USA Hockey officially named the 44 players who have been invited to the U.S. Men's Olympic orientation camp. This does not mean that the roster is guaranteed to include these players, but rather that right now, this is the group they want to go with.
And with that in mind, the Minnesota Wild will have two representatives at this orientation camp and it's no surprise as to who they are. Forward Matt Boldy and defenseman Brock Faber have been named to this roster.
Both Boldy and Faber were, of course, on the American roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off -- so it makes sense that they would automatically get an in for this camp. It would be weird to not include any players from the tournament that took place earlier this year.
Now, it just depends on how Boldy's and Faber's seasons start and if they can perform at a level that will guarantee them a spot to represent their country over in Milan next February.
- Hey, weren't the Wild supposed to have to deal with an onslaught of teams trying to offer sheet Marco Rossi? Or is the player just rejecting every single contract not from Minnesota? What's the deal? [Hockey Wilderness]
- Hunter Haight wasn't really a super hyped-up prospect after he was taken in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft. But after an impressive AHL rookie season, he's been everything the Wild could have hoped for. [Hockey Wilderness]
That's Wild
- The Detroit Red Wings are still trying to improve the most mediocre roster in the sport. And recently they added defenseman Travis Hamonic to the roster. When you can sign the worst blueliner on the 2024-25 Ottawa Senators, you just have to do it. [TheScore]
- Milan Lucic will be at an NHL training camp. [CTV]
