  • Writers Wanted: Hockey Wilderness is adding to the staff

    Guest

Need an excuse to watch hockey this upcoming season? How about joining our team or writers at Hockey Wilderness? As we prepare for the new season, we are looking for writers to join our team to help provide great content and discussion about Minnesota hockey.

We are currently looking for writers that will help with Iowa Wild coverage, NHL and Minnesota Wild, Minnesota High School Hockey (boys and girls). We want to provide coverage that encompasses all that is great about Minnesota hockey.

    What this is:

This is a writing position first and foremost. We are looking for people of all backgrounds, ethnicity, race, sex, gender, orientation that are passionate about the Minnesota Wild and about sports writing. All sports have become a 365 day operation and news is always breaking, waiting to be covered. We need people that are in it for the long haul - 82 games in the season, as well as the post season. We cover the draft, free agency, trade deadline, prospect camp, and all things Minnesota Wild. On top of that, we need coverage for the Iowa Wild, the Rapid City Rush, and Minnesota Wild prospects.

    What’s required:

We ask for just one article a week is all we ask for. Want to write more than that? No problem!

You need to be a self-starter. While the HW team will discuss topics to write about on occasion, you should be willing to develop a topic, research that topic, and present your take.

We ask that if you have an opinion on about the Wild and their on-ice performance, you support it with facts either through video breakdown, stats, or interviews.

Your writing skills should be strong. This is a given. You should understand writing fundamentals, but we also want you to weave your colorful personality into your words as well! We want you to share your opinions, in your unique voice, and have it understood!

We want you to be a hockey fan! You should have some passion for the game and understand some of the ins and outs.

We are looking for people that can engage with the readers. Hockey Wilderness is a community where we interact in the comments section of all our articles. It’s a two-way street. We want you to keep the discussion going...and it helps with moderation to keep things from getting out of hand.

    What Are We Looking For:

Wilderness Walk contributors: This job requires reading up on the latest from around the NHL, providing quick links and commentary on anything hockey related. It isn’t a very time consuming role, but it’s one that requires consistency and dedication. The links are published every day around 8:00 AM, so some early morning/very late night reading and writing will be a part of the job duties.

Game Previews & Recaps Contributor: As the title implies, this job requires writing up interesting and engaging previews on game days as well as providing instant reaction and recaps from the games after they’ve concluded. This duty also requires a different kind of dedication from the links contributor, because obviously it centers around the game schedule. Game previews are published around midday on game day, but are usually due the morning of or the night before. Game recaps are published after the game’s conclusion.

Staff Writers: This position is a bit more specific. These contributors help keep the machine moving and posting daily articles that analyze, or provoke thinking among readers. Are you a hockey analyst looking for an outlet to formulate your analytical theories? Maybe you are a capologist? Are you great at breaking down video? This is the place to do all of that. We are looking for a variety of voices to better analyze the team.
