Woah. Where’s that Minnesota team been? Wild beats Montreal 7-1

The Wild needed a quick start Tuesday night to try and snap out of this skid they are currently in. 3-7 in their last 10, and are currently losers of two straight. Their opponents tonight however have been no slouch to the start of the season. Coming into tonight the Canadians were holding down the 2nd Wild Card spot in the East, while the Wild sit 3 points out of a playoff spot.

That quick start I mentioned about above happened tonight for the Wild. And something happened in a Minnesota hockey game that VERY rarely happens. That, in a second, but first, the Wild would have their opportunities of chances. Jason Zucker hit the post from a shot right in front about six and a half minutes in, while Zach Parise and Charlie Coyle hooked up on a 2-on-1 however Parise would loose the puck in front. Because of course it would. Chances were 5-0 Minnesota although nine minutes in. Finally, the Wild would find the back of the net with just under six minutes left in the period. A Jonas Brodin shot from the point would be deflected in front by Nino Niedereiter that beat Annti Niemi five hole. For the 10th time this season, the Wild would have a 1-0 lead in a game. SOMEBODY CALL THE COPS!!! That period was the best period the Wild put together in a long time. So good, they even got a standing ovation from the fans leaving the ice for the first intermission. After 1, 1-0 Wild. Shots were 6-9 in favor of Minnesota as well. Nice.

The second period started how many of the Wild games have been as of late. Besides Nino’s breakaway about six minutes into the period, that was the only bright spot in the first ten minutes. Devan Dubnyk was being himself again coming up with save after save including a straight robbery of Jonathan Drouin point blank. However, the Wild would head to the power-play right at the ten minute mark of the period and Marcus Gralund would feed Matt Dumba with a beautiful saucer pass and Dumba would finish in Alex Ovechkin’s territory making it 2-0 Wild. Shots before that goal were 8-2 Montreal.

Just a minute and twenty-two seconds later, while shorthanded, Charlie Coyle would deliver the goal of the night and Weber is still in search of his jock-strap after this move. I’m done talking. Here’s the goal.

Oh, and the goals weren’t done there yet. Granlund would feed Eric Staal in front, Niemi with the initial save, but Staal would bury the rebound and its 4-0 Wild yet shots were 16-15 in favor of Montreal. Because the game was getting out of hand, 15 seconds later Nicolas Deslauriers would end up fighting Nick Seeler trying to get a spark for Montreal. And if you thought the goals were over, you were wrong. Nino had a rebound go to Jason Zucker who found Jared Spurgeon and he buried the shot from the top of slot into the wide open net. So to recap that 2nd period: the Wild scored a two power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and an even strength goal. 5-0 Wild after 40 minutes, and YET MONTREAL WAS STILL OUT-SHOOTING THE WILD.

For some reason, Niemi would stay out on the ice for the 3rd, but the goals would continue. Dumba would score his 2nd of the night just 44 seconds into the 3rd. The Wild’s third power-play goal in three attempts. Also, the third time they have gone 3-for-3 on the PP. However, Montreal would get on the board ruining Dubnyk’s shoot-out thanks to Jeff Petry. Remember when Edmonton put up a touchdown on the Wild? Well, Minnesota put one up on Montreal thanks to a break-away goal from Parise as he beat Niemi. Yes, Niemi was still in night. 4-4 on the PP, and FINALLY Carey Price would come in the game. 7-1 late in the game, things would get out of hand with J.T. Brown in the middle of it.

As what current Minnesota Viking Quarterback once said: “YOU LIKE THAT?” Because watching that game was fun. A 7-1 which was a lot of fun. Most lopsided margin of victory at home in franchise history. Although tonight was fun, can they keep it going though is the question?
