This won’t come as a surprise to Minnesota Wild fans familiar with the Wild’s run to the 2013 playoffs, but Dustin Brown is in trouble for an illegal hit once again. Brown boarded Justin Schultz from behind in a hit remarkably similar to the one that incapacitated Jason Pominville right before the playoffs. What will be surprising is that Brown has only received a fine for this latest piece of dangerous play. Of course, maybe it shouldn’t be surprising as Brown only received a meaningless two game suspension back in 2013. Read Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts below for more about this latest misadventure of the Department of Player Safety.
Also mentioned in that article is a mention of midseason awards for the NHL. It includes a fan ballot, which can be found here: http://bit.ly/fanvotephwa. Go and make your voice heard. Maybe we can get some love for Nino Niederreiter or Jared Spurgeon (perhaps there should just be an award with their names on it for best players resurrected from the New York Islanders).
