The second round of the NHL Playoffs started with a serious bang last night, as the highly anticipated Washington Capitals/Pittsburgh Penguins death match got underway in classic fashion. The Caps held a 2-0 lead entering the third period, but then things fell apart for Washington, as is tradition when they play the Penguins in the postseason.
Somehow, Pittsburgh came away with a 3-2 victory to take the early lead in the series and destroy the confidence of Capitals fans everywhere. The puck sliding between Alex Ovechkin’s skate and stick and right onto the tape of Sidney Crosby pretty much sums up this rivalry over the years.
Meanwhile, in the desert, the Vegas Golden Knights opened their series with the San Jose Sharks by making a pretty emphatic statement that their magical ride is far from over. The VGK’s took down the Sharks 7-0 in an absolute no-doubter of a drubbing, as Alex Tuch and Erik Haula each scored a goal and an assist. Isn’t that neat?
