  • Wild sign defenseman Ian McCoshen to one-year, two-way deal

    Guest

Looking to bolster the defensive depth of their American Hockey League affiliate, general manager Bill Guerin announced today that the Minnesota Wild have signed free agent defenseman Ian McCoshen to a one-year, two-way deal.

A former second-round selection by the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, McCoshen has spent most of the past four seasons bouncing between the Panthers and their AHL affliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. McCoshen saw action in 60 games over three seasons with the Panthers, scoring a total of four goals and three assists. With Springfield, McCoshen earned 30 points in 115 games over parts of four seasons. Just seven games into the 2019-20 season, McCoshen was traded the Rockford IceDogs of the Chicago Blackhawks system, where he notched two goals and six points in 56 games.

A product of the Fairbault’s Shattuck St. Mary’s 14U AAA team and Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, McCoshen attended Boston College and played for three seasons, ending his college career with 17 goals and 33 assists in 110 games with the Eagles. McCoshen was part of the Eagles’ NCAA Championship roster in 2013-14 and was named BC’s alternate captain in 2015-16.

McCoshen’s one-year contract will pay him $125K during his time with the Iowa Wild - where he will likely spend the 2020-21 season - and $700K should he be called up to St. Paul.
