  • Wild re-sign Nick Bjugstad to one-year deal

    Guest

The Minnesota Wild re-signed forward Nick Bjugstad earlier this afternoon to a one-year, $900,000 contract.

By signing Bjugstad now, the Wild avoid him entering unrestricted free agency, which begins on July 28.

The 28-year-old was a new addition to the Wild in 2021, acquired by the team in the offseason from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional 2021 draft pick, which the Penguins did not end up receiving. The Blaine, Minn. native had 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) in 44 games this past season. Half of his goals were game winners.

His previous contract, signed with the Florida Panthers, was a 6 year, $24,600,000 contract ($4,100,000 AAV). His new deal with the Wild frees up crucial cap space that can be reinvested into Kevin Fiala and Kirill Kaprizov’s anticipated re-signings.

After this business, the Wild have just under $16 million in cap space to fill out their roster, which currently sits at just nine forwards, five defensemen and the two netminders.
