  • Wild @ Flames Post game Recap

    Guest

In the words of Zenon Konopka, tonight's effort was "unacceptable." The Wild came out strong in the first, outshooting the Flames, but went downhill from there. They just couldn't get it together for the second and third periods, despite Yeo's line juggling.

Alex Tanguay got the opening goal for Calgary as scored when Backstrom bit too early on a breakaway. Charlie Coyle would get his first NHL goal tonight with assists from Pierre Marc Bouchard and Kyle Brodziak. He would also show that he wasn't afraid to stand up for himself when he got tangled up with a Tanguay in the third period.

In the first period, Akim Aliu would attempt to board Clayton Stoner. Fortunately, Stoner was paying attention and was able to get out of the way. Towards the end of the first, Aliu and Rupp would take matching misconducts for going after each other.

The second period was uneventful at best. The Wild just couldn't get it together, and Yeo started jumbling lines to spark something, eventually moving Dany Heatly to the 4th line.

In the 3rd period, Matt Stajan would score the 2nd goal and game winner for thtee Flames. Jason Zucker would take a penalty for running the goaltender; Joey Macdonald stayed down for a bit, having the trainer come out and Danny Taylor perk up on the bench, but he shook it off and remained in the game. Backstrom was pulled with 2 minutes remaining, and Matt Stajan would score the empty netter on a questionable waved off icing call.

    5 questions:

    1. The Wild slept through the last game in Calgary. Who wakes up tonight?

Well, the Wild started out awake, and then quickly fell asleep. Charlie Coyle was awake for the game though.

    2. Can the Wild keep Iggy cold? He had one assist and no goals.

    3. Joey MacDonald has played 3 games in the last 11 months. Does that work in our favor? You'd really think it would, but nope. He allowed one goal on 31 shots.

    4. Will we see more secondary scoring by the Wild? Charlie Coyle was on the third line when he scored. I believe he eventually spent some time on the first.

    5. Flames have shook up their lines as well; helping or hurting us? The shake up helped the Flames, not us.
