The Minnesota Wild beat the slumping St Louis Blues 2-1 in a shootout. The first road game of three this week, St Louis was a challenging stop as neither team has scored more than three goals in any of the Wild Blues games this season. Knowing it’s going to be a low scoring game puts even more pressure on the Wild offense to get the puck between the pipes and do it early. Marian Gaborik did just that, scoring early in the first period with an assist from flu recovery victim Kim Johnsson. The Blues goalies have been sick with the flu, too and I am starting to wonder if the NHL shouldn’t sponsor some sort of Flu Shot clinic!
The Blues tied it up later in the first and then both teams couldn’t get past the goalies, Harding was in the net for the Wild, until the shootout. Brent Burns scored the game winning goal in funky shootout move to give the Minnesota Wild the victory. It was Burnsie’s first shootout opportunity of the season...do you suppose Jacques Lemaire remembered that Brent Burns scored the game winner in overtime vs the Islanders and thought he had momentum and good grace on his side? I say yes.
Come on Wild, let’s keep making this great hockey wilderness shine in the NHL.
