In what is normally an exciting moment of the year for Minnesota Wild fans, players and coaches, the Wild announced their 53-man training camp roster today, two days ahead of the scheduled start of camp on September 23rd.
But for all the notable names on the list, there’s one obvious exception.
Fresh off of the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase last week, Wild prospects Matt Boldy, Marco Rossi, Carson Lambos and Caedan Bankier highlight the inclusion of 19 players who will get an extended look at the big boy camp. Most will just be there for the experience before being sent down to Iowa or their respective junior league teams. Some, including Boldy and Rossi, have a definite chance of sticking and staying.
The Wild also invited defensemen Turner Ottenbreit, Doyle Somerby and Keaton Tompson on professional try-out offers.
But the name that everyone is hoping to see on any kind of active roster - whether traning camp or otherwise, is Kirill Kaprizov, whose lingering contract impasse with Wild general manager Bill Guerin is now starting to cost the phenom real ice time with the Wild. And as you know if you’ve been hanging around the Wilderness (or reading Russo religiously), the word on that front isn’t good.
For the players that have reported and signed, players will have three days of camp practices before heading to St. Louis on Saturday night for the Wild’s preseason opener in a 7 p.m. tilt against the Blues. The Wild’s first home preseason game will be on Monday, October 4th at the Xcel Energy Center against the Colorado Avalanche.
A handful of training camp practices will be open to the public, and require pre-registration to reserve a spot. You can get your practice tickets at wild.com/openpractices. Tickets for the Wild’s preseason schedule can be found at wild.com/tickets.
