As most of you probably know by now the Minnesota Wild lost to (grrr) the Colorado Avalanche and to make it even worse Gabriel Landeskog scored the lone goal. Calvin Pickard is frustratingly good compared to Seymon Varlamov. The Wild were also shut out for the first time this season and are now on a two-game losing streak. For a full recap of yesterday’s game, you can read managing editor Joe Bouley’s article and watch his facebook live recap.
The Wild looked good yesterday; not great but good. Then all of the sudden Gabriel Landeskog scored and it proved to be too much to come back from. Eric Staal’s line thought they had scored to tie it up with minutes left but it ended up being goaltender interference as Staal had pushed Erik Johnson into Pickard. Bummer. There are few things I hate more than losing to the Avs. My first hockey memory is the 03 playoff series when Andrew Brunette scored in overtime to beat the Avs and win the series. Being a Minnesota sports fan sucks an awful lot of the time.
The Wild, Twins, Timberwolves, Vikings, Lynx, Gophers, Bulldogs etc. send us on a lot of emotional roller coasters. The only championship I’ve seen and lived to tell is the 2011 National Championship Bulldogs. I wasn’t really into college hockey or UMD at the time but it’s still one I cling to. The closest the Wild have come is in 03 when they lost in the Conference Finals to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 0-4 back when the Central Division was the Northwest Division and I was a little kid so life was simpler and I barely can tell you what happened besides the raw emotion and recalling moments of those games with my dad. Losing to a rival sucks; it’s like putting salt on a wound
