    That's Wild

The Minnesota Wild have made some first cuts for training camp this year. It's nothing unexpected or extraordinary, but one game into the preseason and the Wild have sent all the players that we knew were heading back to junior hockey, back to junior hockey.

Forwards Lirim Amidovsky, Adam Benak, and Carter Klippenstein, and goaltender Chase Wutzke, are back with their respective CHL clubs. Defensemen Rowan Topp and Jordan Tourigny have been released from their amateur tryouts. And finally, forwards Matthew Sop and Ryan McGuire, and goaltender William Rousseau have been released from their professional tryouts and are reporting to AHL Iowa Wild training camp.

Fifty-seven players remain at Wild training camp and beyond the players we know for sure are making the team, there are some interesting players sticking around. Forwards like Riley Heidt, Hunter Haight, Caedan Bankier, and Elliot Desnoyers are getting more of a look, and defensemen Jack Peart, Kyle Masters, David Spacek, and Carson Lambos are staying with the big boys until probably being sent down to the AHL.

For now, they're up here and will try to break on through.

    • And speaking of that negotiation, it's all quiet as the preseason just keeps rolling on. [Pioneer Press]
    • And speaking of preseason, the Wild are in Dallas facing the Stars on Tuesday night. [NHL.com]

    Off the trail...

    • It's barely been a week and things are already not looking good for the Boston Bruins. David Pastrnak has a nagging knee injury, but apparently he's not too worried. [TheScore]

Off the draw. That's what the Wild need to win draws for. Score one in the O-Zone, and win em to prevent GAs in the D-zone. Nice work Bankier.

    Gotta like the NA players.

This game alone is diminishing Kaps value.  Dallas has almost all starters in abd we are outplaying them.  No player should be more than 10% of the cap.  Oliver Moore abd a player and a 1st I would do.  Also Svechnikov or Jarvis and picks from Carolina or Point from Tampa or Mctavish and Terry and picks from Anaheim.  We don’t need Kap.  We need more depth!!!

Kappy does make the players he's with better. He's not a center though so it could be okay if he left but not for picks and prospects IMO. He's too valuable and productive. I would wanna see MN get a legit younger centerman in return.

Peterson playing well. Beaten clean by Raanntennen, but not the worst considering he's a top tier scorer. Gotta like to see him and Wally both looking like a solid backup tendy.

They can get 1 top 6 player for him and a top prospect and top pick for him and have $8mm left over to get another top 6 fwd at deadline.

Been very very impressed with Kumpalienan the last 2 periods. He and Lambos have been our best players.  Not impressed with heidt last 2 periods.

PK has been effective and Peterson solid. That's why it's a tie game right now.

Only a couple shots for the Wild in the 2nd period. Gotta do better than that.

So. In the ot the wild started Yurov, ogre and jiricek.  Lost the draw, but got the puck back.  Ogre had to play keep away for 10 plus seconds vs. duscher but led to a breakout that led to Yurov settling things down for a change.

Dallas got it back but turned it over in the wilds end that led to a breakaway for abe-kubel that was saved that led to a Dallas two on one which they buried it for the ot winner.  Hinnestroza was gassed but tried to back check to make it an even 2 on 2.

Hinnestroza had the breakaway in OT abd then tried to get back and Heidt lost his guy in Seguin leading to the Dallas goal.  Heidt will be sent down soon. Kumpalienan and Lambos need to stick around longer. Kumpalienan will be a beat center with 20 more lbs added. Absolutely do not trade him.  He will be a 2 or 3 center in a year or 2.  Heidt is to small for NHL abd doesn’t have the speed.

I've seen some junk floating the idea Chicago would give up Oliver Moore for Kaprizov. Not even close to a fair trade.

If #97 was to be traded, which teams could offer a fair return? Realistically, I'm not sure there's too many or that the timing is great. If MN looks good going towards the deadline and Kaprizov still isn't signed, that's not great timing either.

It would be sweet if McDavid takes a team-friendly deal and diminishes Kirill's number and Kaprizov stays in MN with a team that looks really good around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

Watched some of the kings/knights game.  If Kap wants to go to the Kings the Wild should ask for Byfield and Henry Brzustewiz and a 1st or a player they need to offload to make cap hit work..  Brzustewiz is going to be a stud.

Petersen played out of his mind.  The game shouldn't have been as close as it was.

Hinostroza played well, despite the OT problems.  Probably the most noticeable forward along with Trenin.  Should show you why "NHL Quality" is such a jump in class.  Even 3rd/4th line NHL guys are miles ahead of AAAA or AHL level.

Jiricek should silence some doubts with performances like this.  He got the offense going, and pinched in when he could.  I think his skating issues are mitigated by the choices of the angles and reach he has.  He'll do fine if there is a faster or more experienced partner.  He's a PP2 option for sure. He'll be fine on 3rd pair.

Yurov and Ohgren seem ready, but in less offensive roles.  Yurov got some good spots, like rocking a Dallas player trying to setup a shot from the slot, but their games were what I'd classify as "efficient and solid.". Those two and Gleason are options for 4th line duty without injury issues to the top 6 like Zucc.

Heidt has not really improved since last year.  He might end up another Beckman/Walker scenario.  I'm curious to see if being in Iowa changes that or further exposes his weaknesses.

That said, I do hope people start realizing what I've been saying about Johansson, Trenin, Hinostroza, etc.  Games like this show the true difference in NHL talent.  The Stars played their starters and the Wild had to fight to stave them off.  They did "ok" but it was mostly the NHL lifers that were noticeable above that.  3rd/4th line guys that stick have a higher talent floor than it seems.

The Dallas announcers said it was abd, hinnestroza makes more sense as to why he was gassed trying to back check.

    I like kumps game too.

With Kopitar retiring after this season, there's no way LA trades Byfield, maybe we could get Kempe, but if the Wild have to trade Kaprizov, there's no chance of winning that trade and getting a fair return.  It would be like the Eichel to VGK trade for Tuch, Krebs, and picks.  We would be getting Lafreniere from NYR or Lundell from FLA or Hagel from TBL, it would be a 60-70 point guy, a prospect and late first round pick.  Almost all of the top end guys have NMC, and like it's been said before MIN is not a desirable destination, probably due to our inability to get past the first round.

I wouldn't even put him in the Beckman/Walker category at this point.

Byfield, Greentree, and Koehn Ziemmer might be interesting.

As good as Henry Brzustewicz is likely to be, I'm not sure the Wild need another Defenseman as much as they need forwards who can create offense and/or score the puck.

Understand but from what I saw of Henry Brzustewicz he is the real deal (you don’t pass that up) and have a right side on D of Faber, Jiricek and Brzustewicz would be so good to go along with Middleton, Zeev and Lambos.  Could have that 6 for many many years

Spurg and Brodin roads are coming to end soon.  Lambos is ready right now.
