  • Minnesota Wild to Buy Out Tyler Ennis

    Giles Ferrell

The Minnesota Wild will be buying out the final year of forward Tyler Ennis' contract. Via Michael Russo of The Athletic and Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Wild have placed the forward on waivers Saturday morning with the intent of buying out the final year of Ennis' contract.

Buying out the contract of Ennis will come with a cap hit of $2.16 million in 2018-19 and $1.21 million in 2019-20. He was set to have a cap hit of $4.6 million in 2018-19 with an actual salary of $3.65 million.

Ennis, 28, registered 22 points (8G-14A) in just 73 games this past season with Minnesota. There were high hopes for Ennis after being acquired last year that he would be able to stay healthy -- which he did -- and produce in a way that he had before with Buffalo. But his lack of production and play saw him lose the confidence of head coach Bruce Boudreau and Ennis ended up being a healthy scratch late in the year and in the postseason.

New general manager Paul Fenton decided it was more feasible to buyout Ennis than just get through the final year of his contract and high cap hit.

The forward was acquired last June along with Marcus Foligno from Buffalo in the trade that sent Jason Pominville and Marco Scandella back the other way. Ennis will now be an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team on July 1.
