During his time in Minnesota he was a mediocre possession player who didn't score, took dumb penalties and threw his weight around a bit, occasionally dropping the gloves. He had a decent year in 2012/13, posting a positive Corsi rel in soft minutes but followed it up with an absolute stinker in New York.
I imagine this signing is purely to add some more depth to the roster. I feel like there is still a spot left on the NHL roster for a 3rd pairing defenceman who plays the left-side, but Falk is not the man to take it. He more than likely will be helping to strengthen the rebuilt Iowa Wild roster and be around in case the NHL club badly needs a defenceman to call up.
