Justin Fontaine was signed as a College Free Agent out of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he scored 62 goals and 109 assists over four years and won a National Championship. The Wild had him playing in Houston for two years after signing him, and he led the Aeros in scoring both years.
Fontaine was a RFA without an extraordinary track record, or a high level of risk to be lost via an offer sheet, so it was pretty much a given that the Wild would re-sign him. His deal is one-way, meaning if he goes through waivers and is able to be assigned to the AHL, he'd earn his NHL salary there.
