The Minnesota Wild beat the St Louis Blues in St Louis Saturday night 3-1. In the past I have said that better geographical realignment of NHL Divisions would fuel better rivalries, but the Wild and the Blues are out to reignite a tried and true hockey rivalry without the NHL’s realignment plan. I guess just being in the same Western Conference and playing a few heated games a year is enough to get the rival flames from simmering to full force inferno – well that and the fact that both hockey teams have winning records.
During the Blues Wild preseason match-up last month, Blues coach Andy Murray complained about the Wild running up the score (only 7 goals, come on) – Mr. Murray isn’t too fond of my Minnesota Wild and he even suggested (after a scuffle between Boogaard and Blues player Doug Weight) that the next time the teams met the Wild's skill players should be "on alert."
The Minnesota Wild players were alert Saturday night and played with great skill and determination to pull off the victory thanks in large part to power play goals. Eric Belanger, Brent Burns and Pavol Demitra all scored for the Wild and Josh Harding made 33 saves for Minnesota.
The entire Minnesota Wild team is proving they can take advantage of opportunities and win hockey games! Let’s go Wild!
