Today is the start of the preseason for the Minnesota Wild. That’s right — hockey is back.
The team will travel to Traverse City, Michigan to compete in the 2019 NHL Prospect Tournament which features eight NHL teams across two divisions. Each team will play for a chance to have their name on the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup, which is named after the late founder of CapGeek of the same name who passed away from colon cancer in 2015.
The Wild are in the Ted Lindsay Division, along with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, and New York Rangers. The Gordie Howe Division is comprised of the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The top two teams from each division will play on Tuesday, September 10 beginning at 12 p.m. Central.
The tournament begins today and concludes on Tuesday, September 10. The Iowa Wild coaching staff — head coach Tim Army and Assistant Coaches Alex Tanguay and Brett McLean — will be at the helm of the Minnesota prospects for all four days. Notable among Minnesota’s prospects partaking in the tournament are: Hunter Jones (2019 second round), Adam Beckman (2019 third round), Connor Dewar (2018 third round), and Nico Sturm, who was acquired by Minnesota earlier this year. The 26-man roster features 15 forwards, eight defenseman, and three goaltenders, so expect lots of line changes and lineup combinations.
