Game preview, huh? Let's see here...
There are few things in sports more depressing than games that don't mean anything. One of those things is when the team you follow doesn't show up for those games. As the season winds down, the players seem to have given up on the season, on the fans, and on each other. While the news from the locker room says they feel terribly about it, it has been game after game and no one has done anything about it.
Thus, going into a meaningless game against the worst team in the NHL still brings absolutely no joy to Mudville. None of the players fans want to watch are playing, there is no meaning to the game, and the players who are suiting up are not putting forth the effort an NHL fan pays for.
So, a game preview? It may be more appropriate to write a eulogy.
Neither team has any desire to play this game, let alone to win it. The "kids" in Edmonton at least understand there on contracts and jobs on the line. Nothing coming from the opposition locker room says the Wild understand that. Should be a fairly depressing event this evening, to be quite honest. Wild fans will watch, they will gather, and they will likely find a whole new way to be disappointed.
But hey... enjoy!
