  • Madison Packer joins the Hockey Wilderness staff

Well this is exciting! Never did I imagine I would be writing about the sport I love most, in what may be deemed the most rivaled state of my athletic career; but here we are.

My name is Madison Packer. I am a former Wisconsin Badger, and current member of the Metropolitan Riveters in the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL). I grew up in the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan playing hockey for Detroit Little Caesars. I made my way to the University of Wisconsin where we went on to win the 2011 National Championship my freshman season. 2011 would also turn out to be the last year I would beat the Minnesota Gophers, which is fine, I’m not salty about it at all.

During my four years in Madison — yes, my name is Madison Packer and I went to school in Madison, and no, I am not related to the Green Bay Packers... did you follow that? Anyways, during my four years in Madison, I played a lot of hockey. I also spent a little time in class, where I ultimately majored in English and creative writing. Fast forward to the present, and I have landed a pretty cool gig writing about hockey whilst still playing hockey. If you follow women’s hockey at all, you will slowly learn I am a far different person off the ice than I am on the other side of the glass. When the puck drops, I am a gritty, rough it up, power-forward, who can execute the occasional toe drag. Away from the rink I am afraid of the dark, close my eyes during scary movies and love nothing more than a witty punch line.

Hockey and creative writing have always been two of my biggest passions. They are both forms of very different entertainment that allow me to reach broad audiences and engage with people I may not otherwise cross paths with, and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I am excited to get to work with the Hockey Wilderness team and interact with fans under a different banner.

So, buckle up Wild fans! I am joining the Hockey Wilderness team, and hope you enjoy the content. I am here to bring you a pro’s perspective with a journalistic spin. I can’t promise you will always like what I have to say, but I promise to always be honest in my analysis!

    Let’s do this thing.
