  • Jack Ferreira named new Assistant to the General Manager

    Guest

The Wild announced this afternoon that Jack Ferreira will be joining the Wild’s front office as an assistant to new General Manager Paul Fenton.

He most recently served as a special assistant to the general manager for the Los Angeles Kings and served as general manager of three separate teams, including the North Stars from 1988 to 1990.

Ferreira also has a history of working with new Wild General Manager Paul Fenton. Ferreira hired Fenton as a scout when he was the general manager of the then Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

This is the first move in what is expected to be a pretty active summer for Fenton. Earlier Tuesday, Micheal Russo of The Athletic tweeted that assistant coach, and long time friend of head coach Bruce Boudreau, John Anderson will not have his contract renewed.

Ferreira has been in the NHL for roughly four decades stopping at several different places throughout his career. His started with NHL Central Scouting and then traveled on to eight different NHL teams. He was the general manager for the North Stars, the San Jose Sharks, and the Mighty Ducks. He was with the Canadians when they won the Stanley Cup in 1993 and with the Kings when they won the Cup in 2012 and ‘14.

Ferreira’s relationship with Paul Fenton goes back to when Fenton was 15 years old, according to a quote from Ferreira in the announcement from the team. They both played their college hockey at Boston University, and the two have maintained their relationship since Fenton graduated from the school (roughly 25 years after Ferreira did). Ferreira brought Fenton in after he was named GM in San Jose in 1993, and the two worked together for the next five years. In 1998, when Nashville was granted an expansion team, Fenton was hired away from Ferreira after Nashville’s GM David Poile wanted someone to help him handle drafting. Fenton stayed there for the next 20 years until he was officially named the General Manager of the Wild about two weeks ago.

For how long he has been in the league, Ferreira brings a wealth of knowledge and plenty of success to the Wild front office. He’ll serve as an adviser to Fenton as the two try to take this team to the next level of success.
