Iowa Wild's Week Report

The Iowa Wild started off on Valentines day against the Milwaukee Admirals in Milwaukee. The Wild won 3-1. John Curry made 27 saves and stopped a penalty shot attempt by Taylor Beck when he was held, preventing him from having a chance at scoring. Jim McKenzie led off the scoring towards the end of the first period, and Erik Haula finished up the remaining goals in the third. Kyle Medvec had two assists. Filip Forsberg had the lone goal for Milwaukee on the powerplay when Jon Landry took a delay of game penalty. The game stars were 1. Erik Haula, 2. Kyle Medvec, and 3. Filip Forsberg.

They followed with a two game homestand against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Iowa would lose Saturday night 3-5 to the Ice Hogs. Johan Gustafsson allowed 4 goals on 38 shots. This was a light game on the penalty side, however, Iowa took the bulk of the penalties (6 minutes vs 2). The Wild scored all three of their goals in the second period, and they were scored by Erik Haula, Stephane Veilleux, and Justin Mercier. Rockford opened the scoring with our old friend Pierre Marc Bouchard, followed by Mark McNeill, Alex Broadhurst, and Adam Clendening. Brad Winchester had an empty net goal. The three stars were Erik Haula, Pierre Marc Bouchard, and Alex Broadhurst.

Sunday night, the Wild again fell to the Ice Hogs, this time 4-2. John Curry took the net this time, stopping 26 shots. Rockford took the bulk of the penalties in this game, but it did not work to Iowa's advantage. The Wild scored goals by Curt Gogol and Jon Blum in the first and third periods. The Ice Hogs scored 2 goals in each of the first and third periods; Jeremy Morin and Brandon Pirri in the first and Pirri and Brandon Mashinter (EN) in the third. The stars chosen this game were Brandon Pirri, Jeremy Morin, and Curt Gogol.

Wednesday, February 19, the Wild headed to Rochester NY to face the Americans. Former Houston Aero, Matt Hackett, was on the bench for this game. The Americans won this one in overtime. John Curry had his second start in a row and first since signing his new contract. Erik Haula had both goals for the Wild. Jamie Tardif, Johan Larsson, and Phil Varone scored for the Amerks, Varone's being the game winner. Erik Haula was chosen the first star while former teammate Johan Larsson was second. Jamie Tardif got the third star.

Jon Blum and Jake Dowell were called up to the Wild yesterday.

John Curry has been officially assigned to Iowa.
