Iowa and San Antonio matched up again for the second of a back-to-back. Iowa got off to a good start with Christoph Bertschy scoring from the front of the net 5 and a half minutes in with Pat Cannone and Colton Beck getting assists. Iowa's goal came on the power play. Iowa outshot the Rampage 10-8 in the first.
Joe Whitney tied the game for San Antonio with just 3:22 left in the second period putting a rebound past Alex Stalock. The goal happened while Iowa was on the penalty kill. Iowa got outshot in the second 13-12. The third period saw no goals but Iowa had the advantage in shots 14-12.
The game went to overtime where Christoph Bertschy got his second of the night to win the game for Iowa on a breakaway. Grayson Downing made a great pass from the Iowa end to Bertschy who scored on Spencer Martin. Zach Pamquist also got an assist on the goal.
Alex Stalock made 33 saves for Iowa. He started both games of the back-to-back, which I personally have to wonder why since Steven Michalek has been pretty good this year in Iowa and Alex Stalock has been great or terrible depending on the game. Alex Tuch missed the game again with an injury.
Iowa went 1 for 5 on the PP and 3 for 4 on the PK and outshot the Rampage 39-34 in total. Bertschy was the first star with his two goals, Alex Stalock got second star for his performance and Joe Whitney was awarded third star.
