With Alex Stalock having a sub-par performance against the Grand Rapids Griffins, Iowa opted to start Steven Michalek. Iowa started strong with Zach Palmquist scoring 3:19 in when he pinched nicely and shot a one-timer from a Pat Cannone pass top corner. JC Lipon tied the game for the Moose a bit under 12 minutes in. Iowa had 18 shots in the first to Manitoba's 8.
Peter Stoykewych gave Manitoba the lead with a shot from the point 5 minutes in to the second. Alex Tuch, who returned from injury tonight, scored on a one-timer from a great feed by Teemu Pulkkinen to tie the game with 9 minutes left in the second period. Manitoba ended up outshooting Iowa 14-13 in the second.
Zack Mitchell scored quickly just 1:26 in to the third with a long shot wrister that beat Ondrej Pavelec with Pulkkinen and Cannone getting the assists. Mike Reilly got the empty net goal when he cleared the puck from the Iowa zone and found the goal. Iowa got outshot 7-8 in the third but outshot the Moose 38-30.
Steven Michalek did a good job with 28 saves on 30 shots while Ondrej Pavelec did a really good job for the Moose with 34 saves on 37 shots. Pulkkinen was first star with his 3 assists, JC Lipon for the Moose got second star and Zack Mitchell was third star. The Wild went 0 for 5 on the PP, including a full 2 minute 4-on-3 but also killed off all 3 PKs they had.
The Moose get their chance to get back at the baby Wild tonight when they match up again.
