Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 will make Bayfront Park its home, with a brand new rink having been constructed on the popular music venue and park site with a direct view of Duluth's iconic Aerial Lift Bridge. The makings of this event date back several years, but the event has been in full production since its announcement last July 31. Other locations were proposed, but ultimately nothing could be more appropriate for Hockey Day Minnesota than a breathtaking view of the bridge and Lake Superior. Using this site was immediately thought to be a great challenge, as the rink had to be constructed on top of a sloping amphitheater lawn. But organizers and sponsors were able to come together to overcome the challenges of the land and construct the rink.
Hockey Day Minnesota is a joint production of the Minnesota Wild and Fox Sports North that originated in 2007 and has grown in popularity through the years. The event has grown to include many levels of Minnesota Hockey and has been a resounding success for everyone involved as the event has been able to capture the state's pride in hockey and put it on display.
